We were visiting some friends in Gulf Shores and they suggested The Steamer. There were 6 of us sitting at a large table outside. We started off with some raw oysters for apetizers with margaritas and wine. Then we ordered the Gulf Steamer platter for 6 and it was very good. It had baked oysters, mussels, shrimp, royal reds, snow... More

My boyfriend and I wanted steamer platters like we make at home, but with royal red shrimp. We came here for that. It was just okay. The kitchen was fast, service was good. The food, eh. The royal reds were very watery like they hadn't been drained well from steaming. The sausage that came with the meal was very small... More

I like to give people and places the benefit of the doubt but there was way too much going wrong here... 1) surly waitress unwilling to even allow a question about substituting a side to be finished before flatly squawking 'no not possible' 2) worst crab cakes I've ever seen. Burnt, undersized, contained minimal crab meat and contained large fragments... More

We just wanted appetizers, came away pretty happy. I got the grilled, friend got steamed, they were excellent. Service was awful slow in mid afternoon. Checks were mixed up by new waiter, but everyone was friendly and food was good!

I ordered the crab cake platter and my husband ordered a large side salad. Very disappointed with the shredded lettuce salad with very few toppings. It wasn't even worth 1/2 of what it cost. It came with 1 small package of dressing but the waitress did bring a 2nd one when asked and also crackers when asked. It was hard... More

The gumbo had a red "soup" with a layer of grease/oil on top. It had very little seafood, and a lot of overcooked okra. Terrible. I also tried the shrimp, crab, and parmesan appetizer. It was served with a basket of assorted crackers, but would have been much better with warm bread or tortilla chips. Although it was interesting, it... More

This is a great place to enjoy some shrimp. They have a special all you can eat popcorn shrimp special for $9.95. It's cooked just right. Comes with French fries and cole slaw. You can also get the same deal with fish but my entire party got the shrimp. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Very enjoyable and a... More

It's getting harder and harder to find a restaurant that doesn't fry their seafood. Don't get me wrong, I'm always willing to eat some fried clams, when I find them. However when you're trying to eat healthy without having to cook it for yourself, it's becoming a big challenge! I'm so happy I came across this restaurant. My husband and... More
