The Steamer has been in Gulf Shores for many years and I've eaten there several times, but not again after my last visit. Everything was over-cooked. The shrimp were hard to peel, the mussels were dried out, and the corn and potatoes were nothing but mush. I can cook all of the things that were on our platter better than... More

My husband and I ordered the half pound shrimp/ half pound reds. The server did not explain to us that the reds would come head on, all intact. They are difficult to peel and they were gritty. The boiled shrimp was awesome- peeled beautifully and were deveined. The sausage, corn and potatoes were next to awful. The steamer must somehow... More

We went here on our first night in Gulf Shores on a cold spring break trip. It was late and when we arrived were greeted pleasantly. They were happy to have us even though it was close to closing time. The manager seated us and when we decided to move outside under the nice heaters on their patio, he happily... More

Well, when we entered it didn't seem like anyone wanted to wait on us (as we waited and finally pointed out to one of the multiple servers standing around they all looked at each other saying that is your table), yes we had kids- maybe they were worried they would have to clean up a big mess of shells after... The restaurant has a casual, friendly atmosphere with great service. Diners can choose between eating inside or out on the porch (heated if the evening is chilly). The menu is huge with choices of baked, steamed, and grilled seafood. As our waiter was proud to inform us, there are no fryers on the property. My husband and I started with... More

While in Gulf Shores, we weren't sure where to go so I read some other reviews and decided on The Steamer. There were 6 of us and we decided on 6 person special. I was SO pleasantly surprised! The shrimp and crabs were so big and fresh. They peeled so easy and after being dipped in the delicious butter were... More

We actually ordered out...had a seafood platter for 6- the food was excellent and very fresh. The cook forgot to include the oysters which i was particularly looking forward to and when I called back, the manager was very nice nice and apologetic and offered to remake it (more than what would have come) if I was back in the... Raw Oysters is what we went for and we were not disappointed. Tried a few other items on the menu -- all really good. We drove a couple of hours, from Florida, and it was worth the trip. Outside, covered seating as well as inside, too.

This restaurant is great when you want to get away from traditional fried seafood. The grilled shrimp are exceptional and the baked parmesan oysters and oyster Rockefeller are really good. Staff on duty the day we were there were very friendly and engaged you in conversation. I recommend this restaurant.

Went into this restaurant on a whim and thoroughly enjoyed it. We enjoyed the view of the Gulf from the patio. Food was excellent. However, the kids were a little disappointed because they do not have any French fries or fried shrimp. Service was average; however, we sat on the porch and away from the crowd. It's only been a...
