A Good Lunch for Travelors

While traveling, we stopped at Bates House of Turkey for lunch. It was a little out of the way for us, but well worth the trip. The staff was very friendly and offered good suggestions. The food was good with adequate portion sizes. It was a nice change from a burger or sub sandwich.

If you come expecting a Thanksgiving feast, this is not the place for you. My meal was poorly constructed and only like warm. There was no service beyond taking your order.

We spent more than 10 years stopping at this restaurant as we drove through Alabama. We have been away for 5 years and stopped due to our fond memories. By the age of the crowds, most of the patrons have been coming for 30 years. They must not have noticed the change. The place is dark, dirty and the food... More

I stop here every time I can when I am heading south on a road trip. Food is excellent and home made. Smoked Turkey and sweet pickles are the best! Love it!!!

This place is horrible. I just wish there was a way to give it a lower rating. The food reminds me of the THANKSGIVING lunch they use to serve us as children in school. I don't know what box they get their stuffing from but its horrible. Do not waste your time stopping here.

Unfortunately this family-owned restaurant is going downhill -- fast. Locals have given up on it,but the Interstate trade doesn't know. Turkeys aren't 'home grown' but bought frozen. The gumbo and camp stew are watery. The staff (family?) are not friendly or helpful. It is a shame, because it was great when it first opened.

I stopped here to try the Hickory-smoked turkey sandwich from the "100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama" brochure. Service was quick and the sandwich was good. If I had any complaint it would be that the sandwich was a bit on the small side. Overall this was a good experience and I would not hesitate to stop here again.

Pretty good turkey. Nice little quaint place. Good price for quality. You can even buy some of their roasted turkey packaged for travel. Nice gazebo area to sit and walk dogs if traveling. Nice store next to restaurant. Just follow turkey tracks lol
