This has always been a great stop. The turkey plate with dressing is a must. I'm pretty sure they supply the turkeys for the white house. It is easy to so why.

Having passed this exit for years, I decided three trips ago to give this longtime option a shot. What a great change from everything else along the interstate. But if you aren't interested in turkey, don't stop. Very good meal and good value. Nice desserts. And don't forget your turkey jerky for a road snack…not kidding.

We ate lunch here 5/19/14 about 11:00 A.M. It is a self-serve restaurant. Both of us had the chicken salad & chips. It was very good. The atmosphere is good for a family. The service was good & the wait was only about 10 minutes even though there were still quite a few customers. The prices were very reasonable---$14 (not... More

Stopped at Bates, had a great turkey sandwich for lunch. My wife had the barbecue. She loved hers as well. What I really liked is they use only turkeys they grow themselves. They do not use growth hormones, antibiotics, feed additives or preservatives. JUST turkey and it is delicious. We bought a sweet potato casserole, turkey pot pie and turkey... More

Our group, traveling from Mobile, AL stopped at this local restaurant at straight up noon on a Sunday. Packed with the church crowd, we stood in line and ordered. Wait was not too bad to pick up tray from counter (everything but food preparation is self service). Turkey was an average OK. I've had many good turkey dressings in my... More

The turkey dinner was just like your Aunts, if she served boil-in-bag Swansons turkey dinners! The meat was processed..you can't get a leg or wing...the stuffing was mealy and tastless...green beans over cooked and salty....no butter, just crockpot fake stuff....The staff was friendly...the place was run down and dated. Don't go here to eat.

Driving from Georgia to Florida, we saw an old roadside sign for Bates just about lunch time on Friday. My husband loves a good turkey dinner, so we had to stop. The staff was friendly and efficient, even with a line of customers, a crowded dining room and several people picking up take-out orders. He had the open-face turkey sandwich... More

My wife and I stopped in for lunch recently and the food was TERRIBLE! Every single person looked at us as if we were not welcomed in the restaurant. People literally stared at us the entire time. My guess is because we were black, it must have been a restaurant from back in the old segregation days of Birmingham. IT... More

Turkey with all the fixins....enough said. They have a whole bunch of different ways to serve a really good turkey. Sandwiches, plates or salads. I had the hot turkey sandwich my wife the plate and both of us were very satisfied. This is not a fancy place you step up to the counter and order from the boards. Cups are... More

We arrived a few minutes after they opened this morning at 11 AM. We walked in and waited in line to order. I placed the order. He then told me that the sides were not ready. So, I asked if anything was ready. He went to the kitchen door and people in the kitchen started yelling out that they had... More
