We came to Gulf Shores for Thanksgiving and planned to have a great dinner at this restaurant which we visited a few years back. At that time, we were very impressed, but yesterday's Thanksgiving dinner (which was very over priced even with all the offerings) was not up to par at all.<br /> The meat selection was limited, shredded turkey... We went there on Sunday and they only had a buffet for 16.99 per person. This was our first time so we decided to try it. Although the food was good it was not very warm. I do not like cold food so I did not enjoy mine. The salad bar was fine but the rest was a waste of... More

We totally stumbled upon this restaurant by chance. We have been visiting the Gulf Shores/ Foley Alabama area for about 40 years and had never been aware of this unique restaurant. It is true southern charm, excellent food, wonderful staff and delightful decor. I will definitely be back on every visit to the area. It's one of those restaurants that... More

Having lived in the area most of my life I have passed by the Gift Horse thousands of times but decided to stop in yesterday for lunch. The building is historic and is stunning inside with antique pine board and there is a nice history of the building on each table to be read. All the fall decorations were up.... More

Historic building with great old south architecture and southern homestyle cooking - just can't beat this for a meal.

We've been patrons of the Gift Horse for close to three decades, beginning in an era when we traveled a thousand miles to join our family for a vacation every summer. We returned today with my now-elderly mom and had a wonderful meal in a familiar, well-loved setting. As I was explaining to a west-coast friend, the food reminds me... More

Good southern food, buffet, well cooked with lots of options. Building alone is worth a visit. I've visited this restaurant often over the last 20 years and have never had anything but a wonderful meal.

We ate an early dinner (4:30ish) on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant wasn't crowded, and the food was good. Try the fried biscuits, bisque, and cheese apples (yes, cheese apples). The fried shrimp was also good.

On a recent trip to the Gulf area, we visited Foley for the day. One of my friends suggested that we eat lunch at The Gift Horse Restaurant, as she had eaten there several years ago, and enjoyed her dining experience. On the day we ate lunch there we were very disappointed. The first sign something was wrong was the... More
