"The green-grilled mishti shop at 56 Ramdulal Street is simply called Nakur, short and (very) sweet. Peering through the iron, glasses perched on his nose, Victor picks up one of their best-selling items, Jol Bhora Norom Pak, gives them a thumbs up, and gulps down the sandesh. From a two-item menu consisting of Kada Pak and Monda back in 1844, to 2010 where Chocolate Sandesh can compete for the number one spot, Nakur has come a long way." -- The Telegraph.

I have been to this Sweet Shop many times. There are varieties of sweets sold in this shop, but the there are types & types of Sandesh. They are the best - just awesome. It is tucked away in a lane off Bidhan Sarani in North Kolkata, for those who do not know, it might be trifle difficult to locate.... More

Try to visit their shop to check the test of Sandesh (News) that is Nolen gurer sandesh. From their you can visit House of Ram Krishna Paramahansh's House, Bhagni Nivadita's House, Vivekananda's House mostly walking distance from the shop of Girish Chandra Dey & Nakur Chandra Nandy

The age old traditional bengali sweetmeat shop located in north Kolkata. Aruguably one of the best flag holders of old charm bengali sweets such as Sandesh, Rosogolla, Jol Bhora Sandesh (Centre filled sweet - with jaggery or condense milk) etc. Unlike other famous sweet joints of Kolkata, Girish has maintained the quintessential bengali tradition and not ventured into 'fusion sweets'... "Rosgolla" is the commonest sweet that is associated with 'Bengali", but very few people are aware of the "Sandesh",that is equally pertaining to Bengal. Sandesh is unique that it is made up of chhana, which is produced from cow's milk. This chhana is treated and mixed with sugar or Gur (jaggery) to make Sandesh. There are many varieties of Sandesh,... More

The age old sandesh variety available here are not only of highest standard in terms of taste and Quality but if you taste one you will feel like having more. Most authenticated collection of various varieties of bengali sandesh and some new varieties. Better if the Shop is overhauled and given a new look.

I was born & brought up within stone's throw distance from "Girish" as was the shop popularly called then and was patronised by everybody in the family, particularly by my father. In winter the notun gurer sondesh is a rel delicacy. the later innovation of makha sondesh available for a short while in the afternoon is an addition to that.... More
