We have heard so much about this outlet in the Lake Market area. You have to park your car at the road. The approach to the cafe is not too pleasing. It is obviously a popular place as there is a waiting room. What put us off was the general level of cleanliness of the place and the waiters. The quality of food and service... This place has one of the best south indian foods available in Kolkata. Right from the feel the ambience the taste everything is so good and charming. Though it is in a very busy market place but definitely recommended for lovers of south indian food.

This is, in my opinion, the best restaurant I've eaten at in Calcutta (been there 5 months so far). I love South Indian food, so I'm probably a little biased. They have every type of dosa you can think of on the menu, and the vada and idly are always freshly made. My husband swears by their thali meal. We... More

We stopped by for breakfast here and got the tiffin and some doses. The food was great and the Upma was one of the best I have had. The ambience is ok and the price is highly affordable.

Tucked away into a dreary side street, Banana Leaf is the restaurant attached to Hotel Komala Vilas. We actually walked through some footpath shops to get to its entrance. It's a true hidden gem of authentic South Indian tiffin in the heart of East India. It offers the standard dosa idli vada type menu with some creative new offerings. It's... More

We loved the paneer butter masala & the South Indian meal! Just divine. Really worth the trip & we walked out raving & with our wallets not empty- just $12 AUD for both of us. Highly recommend:-)

I was staying in Hotel Komala Vilas and they gave food coupon for breakfast. We had 5 plain dosa and 5 idlies. Upon giving the coupon the guy in counter told me the coupon is only valid for one dish which has one dosa, idly and vada (it was not mentioned/written anywhere). So 5 of us ate less than what... This restaurant serves authentic South Indian Food and it lived up to it's expectation in terms of food. The ambiance was modest and there is a scope of more south indian touch to the decor. The banana leaf should have been in the shape of the logo of the restaurant. Over all it was a nice experience as the food... More
