Recommended by a friend, indeed the best south indian snacks you can get anywhere, including in Chennai. Crowded and coffee house style, no frills but quick service and worth the waiting time

Of the 3-4 South Indian restaurants, I liked this one the best. The place is almost always crowded but wouldn't you like to eat at a place that's highly popular? The food is tasty, the service is quick and you are done with your meal within half hour :) They don't take reservations. Please be prepared to stand in queue,... More

Went to cafe Madras with a group of friend - you can actually smell the delicious coffee from a few meters away. We ordered a variety of food... all of which was SUPER tasty. A great little joint with no fuss - very cheap very tasty, what's not to like!

I would say this is the best place in town for south Indian food. Ghee idli is just too good and would melt in the mouth in seconds. Filter coffee is also a must try. Ambience is average an little crowdy.

Simple menu, good dosa, very nice masala chai, but that's it. I wasn't looking for a fancy place and this is definitely not that. The cafe is small and mind your head if you're sitting upstairs!

An iconic Udipi place in Matunga. Great for breakfast. Do try their preparations with white butter. Definite one time visit - however other than certain sparks of brillance in some of their preparations - it is more hype than smashing taste.

Though a tad over hyped, the taste of south Indian snacks at Café Madras continues to be good. I went there alone as I was passing by, and was not disappointed. It is very crowded though, most times, and don't be surprised if you have no option but to share a table with two others!

You will be lucky if you can walk in and get a table right away in this place, and rightly so. I have been eating here ever since I was a little kid and there is nothing that can match it in terms of pure taste. Having tried all the other south indian restaurants in and around the place, I... More
