I have never had such good quality food in mumbai before, which tasted great and is great value. There is no menu at the this place. All the regular south indian food is available here (idli, vada ,dosa- all types etc but the rasam vada is a must try) but there is also a daily menu which is put up.... More

It opens at @ 5:30 in the morning.. amazing upma and pine apple shera.. worth going.. only drawback they wind up by 10 Pm

I've even been here at 5.30 am when they've just about opened and was hard pressed to get a table. That says a lot!! Can't get any better for an early morning breakfast with idlis/upma washed down by strong filter coffee. Those with a sweet tooth can try the sheera. I have been visiting this restaurant for many years and the taste just never changes... BEST AND DELICIOUS SOUTH INDIAN FARE (READ TIFFIN FOR THE DIE HARD MADRASI IN YOU).... For the most Authentic South INdian Cuisine Experience, and some of the best Fruit Sheera's , this place has never disappointed me. Quick Service, Neat Ambience, Yummiest food !!!!!!

authentic dosas, upma, idlis, medu ..... sheera & of course coffee.. whenever in MUMBAI - MUST MUST MUST VISIT. Its the only place that wud be open at 0530am on all working days... and the most authentic south indian food. simply a fan of this place.

Matunga is only known for South Indian food. And this one is def the best. Try the rava mysore onion dosa and the special sheera of the day. Idli dosa and the regular stuff is amazing. Finding a good south Indian joint in Mumbai was really difficult. Though u get south Indian snack variety everywhere, but most places turn a disappointment as their sambhar is too sweet or watery. everyone knows that matunga is full of udipi restaurants, one better than the other. being a person who has lived in the area all my life, i can confidently state that ram ashray serves the best south indian food. it may not be as commercialized and over-hyped like madras cafe but it definitely serves better food. it starts as early...
