Good seafood

We were visiting Ankur after a decade and were pleased to find the quality had not changed. We tried the Kerala prawns as starter, prawn gassi, clams, fried fish and neer dosas. Only the pomfret was not up to the mark. As residents in SE Asia, we get used to very fresh fish. Service was helpful. I... read more

Aromas of fried fish and coconut curry wafted out and welcomed me at Ankur a coastal eatery located in one of the Fort by lanes. Started in 1941 this has been the underdog in popularity whilst enjoying loyal patronage. As a vegetarian it was a tough choice to pick this place for lunch, however the Tamarind Martini created by Gaurish... More

Located in a small lane in Fort area of Mumbai, Ankur is good for sea food. Most of it is mangalorean style. The Kori Roti - a mangalorean speciality (chicken dish) is the star dish according to me. In addition, they have several mangalorean dishes that any other restaurant in that area does not provide. Dont go there if you... More

We come here on a semi regular basis and the food is consistently good. It is always very fresh and the seafood is fantastic. The food style is Indian coastal and therefore is flavoursome but light; they also do great neer dosa, which I haven't seen so much in Mumbai. The decor is simple but clean and bright and the... Ankur serves a variety of coastal south Indian sea food dishes that you do not get in the typical and famous seafood eating places in Mumbai. The Kerala prawns & Pomfret, Kori chicken were simply amazing. For desserts, the baklava is worth a try but many a times it is not available. 2 negatives about the place - small portions... More

I love seafood. A write-up about Ankur – the Coastal Bistro in the newspaper sometime back made me curious, as I had missed it so far. Last Sunday, at the first opportunity, I could make it to the restaurant, with my family. It is even better than what was written about it. Lovely ambiance. It’s well crafted wooden roof adds... I m an occasional tourist to Mumbai and my view (which I have to defer to locals as more expert) is food served here is good but expensive by South East Asian standards (where I m from and where southern/northern indian but not coastal indian esp Goa/kerala are standard fares. I had the chicken tikka and Goan fish curries and... More

I normally do not order fried Bombay Duck in restaurants. It always arrives flattened, dry and with an odd texture. Not at Ankur. If you want the Best fried Bombay Duck in Bombay, it is here, it is here, it is here. Everything else is also wonderful, especially the South Indian type of sea food. The Prawns in a herb-laden... This place invites me regularly because of the quality of food, prompt service and well the pricing is also reasonable. Anybody game for non-veg and specifically for fish, should certainly try this place. The staff hasn't changed much over the last 3-4 years and that adds to the comfort.

Ankur is a small restaurant which sits in one of the little lanes between Flora Fountain and the stock exchange. As in most restaurants in Mumbai, if you happen to arrive before 8 in the evening, you don't need a reservation. The six of us got a nice round table, and a waiter who made useful recommendatons. We tried the... More
