Sometimes you just have to pay for a haven like this

Relatively tasty Sri Lankan food and good coffee in this brightly fitted out, cool cafe were worth every rupee simply to hang out in it's off-street location, near the Temple of the Tooth. This is a bit of a retreat from the crowds with excellent toilets. Treat yourself...

Disappointed with the jaggery and cardamom ice-cream - it was expensive, icy and too sweet. I wouldn't go back for ice-cream. However the chocolate cake was good and a generous portion was served.

Really nice rooms. Helpful staff and good service. Ok food, nothing terrific in this old building which has an interesting history dating back to the colonial times. Recommending people to go there, for example just to enjoy a wrap or a cup of coffee. A serious downside is the fact that the kitchen already closes 20:30!!

..in particular, If you go there do not order salad! They will bring it with no dressing saying that there is no dressing for that salad (not even oil or vinegar or anything similar). So you will only eat flavorless green leaves...

We had a great meal there. The salads looked very good and so did the wraps. Also they have a great variety of juices and ice creams.

Dropped in to this nice cafe for a late lunch. Service was somewhat of a slow to begin with (this was largely due to us being locals and focus of staff was to please foreigners, but had a nice chap attend to us afterwards). The food was great. DOWN side was the misleading ice cream menu. It reads 'home made... More

Lovely ambiance n great food, however the menu said "home made ice cream' n what we got was Elephant House ice cream. The excuse of " we put in Vanilla ice cream n add the flavours" sounded lame. Will still recommend a visit for the other plus points.

We had a really tasty lunch at Empire. We both had the tuna Niçoise salad. The tuna was cooked perfectly. We sat on the terrace area and we watched the hustle and bustle outside.

Good place near the temple for taking down rice and curry at a reasonable rate. Restaurant situated in an old house with lots of character. Rooms also available. Note: No alcohol available.

Having a wrap made a change to curry - it was very tasty. Friends stuck to traditional curries and enjoyed them. A quiet and atmospheric restaurant in a manic city.
