A great meal

This restaurant was recommended by our tour guide. It is run by a French man who has married a local lady so I guess that their food, although local, has a western influence. Ordered Mekong Delta set menu + some a la carte. Vegetables expected to be good but were overcooked, fish soup insipid, beef very chewy no comparison with same dish elsewhere at similar price. Fish in clay pot was better, fruit salad was minimal. So all together a disappointing experience.

Right on the waterfront of the Mekong river, Sao Hom is roomy, breezy and pleasant. Part of the Cho Can Tho Tourist Market, the staff are very attentive, and the several Vietnamese items we ordered were quickly delivered and very nice. Visited twice in 2 days, excellent on both occasions. Beer could have been colder. Reasonable prices, for tourist trap.... More

This restaurant has the ideal location by the river but - and I know I risk another cutting response from Benoit, the owner (see below!) - when we had dinner here this evening it was hard not to notice the volume of litter floating past - mainly polystyrene burger boxes, many half full of food, and dead fish. The local... More

Dear James, I share your concern about this. There is nothing much we can do about it but skim the river front when the tide is very low, but when the tide cycle is right, trash is back within the day. The main issue is a matter of people's education. It is especially frustrating, as in fact most of the... More

Dear Arik, Thank you for your feedback, I'll pass the message on regarding dishes served cold --not so common an occurrence. I am a bit puzzled by your mention of a lake, as there is no lake in sight of the Sao Hôm. Thanks for your feedback Benoit More

I visited this restaurant. Thw location is good because you can see the river. However food is not delicious. I cannot recommed here.

We were on a six weeks Asia tour and saw a lot of restaurants. And this restaurant is really not what it looks like in the travel guides. Maybe we just had bad luck but our food was overcooked and just not tasty. Staff is friendly but they know how to make money out of tourists. Another point which made... More

If you like to sit at a place where you can enjoy the food, drink some bottles of beer while enjoying the fresh air around the river bank; this restaurant definately is the place you must come

We had a lovely evening at this restaurant. The staff were friendly and service was prompt without being suspicious. Tomato soup, squid with lemongrass and the tofu with chilli were all lovely. Came to approx $20 australian! Would definitely return
