La Canoa is a good downtown choice if you want to try Ecuadorean specialties, located in the Continental Hotel. Very reasonably priced, lots of options and popular. My Colombian colleague also thought they were authentic and good quality. The outside seating appears odd at first side - it appears to overlook the hotel road entrance but in fact cars no... More

We ordered two of the sampler dishes, a hamburger and the chicken sanduche/sandwich. The samplers had a nice selection of different meat items (the chicharron was especially tasty). The hamburger was okay, the chicken sandwich was more like a shredded chicken salad sandwich. Service was very fast since it was not busy at 5pm. Our waiter was very friendly. The... More

The food was okay but expensive, especially the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet. The waiters were friendly and checked on you regularly.

Our dinner at La Canoa was fine: food was good and our waiter was kind. But the best surprise was breakfast: I can easily believe it is the best buffet breakfast in town, as the restaurant advertises! The selection of foods was really huge and everything tasted great. We would recommend it!

This was one of the best meals we had in Ecuador. The green plantain soup was amazing. I would recommend this place despite the price.

The food is decent but a bit pricey ($15-20 main course). Surprisingly most of the patrons seem to be local - which may suggest the quality of the meals there. Menu has lots of photos and is very friendly to non Spanish speakers to order.

You're paying for the location which isn't really that special but in down town. Service was somewhat sporadic at lunch time. Had ceviche which tasted like ketchup soup, might be the touristic version of real ceviche, for that you have to as for "ceviche criollo". The caldo de salchicha was really good and the Fanesca (typical salt fish soup with... More

We wanted to go to another seafood restaurant near our hotel (Hostal Macaw), but apparently they weren't open in the evening. Since we were going to be on the Malecon2000, the owner of the hotel recommended we go to La Canoa for lunch. It was a good choice for us - we weren't terribly hungry, we mostly ceviche and they... My parents and I ate here after a 9 hour bus ride from Quito. The food was very tasty. The complementary beans and hominy with a spicy salsa was so yummy! And I may have had one of my top 3 coffees of all time. Our server Daniel was very kind. He brought menus with English translations so my parents... More

We read about this cafe in our Lonely Planet so stumbled in after our flight from the Galapagos. We were surprised to find it the place to be in town - filled with snazzily dressed locals. The food was great - and the portions generous.
