Not impressed with the pizza

We ate at Bettola last night for the second time and must say we were less than impressed this time. We had really good service which was the best part and the calamari appetizer was very good, but we both ordered pizzas and were very underwhelmed. The crust was chewy and soggy and the toppings... read more

Bettola has been a favorite but noticed on the last few visits that they are greatly reducing the amount of the meat. My favorite is the lamb sandwich and today I had to hunt for the lamb. Only very thin slices laid side by side, it threw off the balance of the ingredients. Side salad was much smaller too. Pollo... More

Excellent service and superior food. This is a nice place to go with friends for an after work meal or just for a beverage. The hand made pizza was truly fantastic. The pasta was very flavorful and I recommend all the items on the menu. The wait staff was excellent. They were very attentive without being overbearing. Prices were reasonable... More

We went to Bettola tonight to celebrate our son's birthday. We were served by Serafina and she was excellent. We asked for the smaller antipasti and allowed the chef to decide our choices. The artichoke puree was delicious! The prosciutto was not overly salty and the soft cheese ( La Tur) was excellent! We took Serafina's suggestion for a bottle... More

Very nice little "Italian" restaurant. The pastas are all made in the premises and are as fresh as they can be! The food is great, but the reason for the quotes around italian is on the "americanized" ingredient they use on the sauce: GARLIC. This absolutely kills the Italian authenticity and also makes the sauce taste bad instead of tasting... More

I have eaten at Bettola three times in the last month. While the food is still very good, the service has become terrible. We walked in today for lunch and we stood at the door without any acknowledgement. Finally, the guy at the bar told us we order and pay there. In the course of taking our order, there was... More

We visited Bettola on a Friday night after long work days, and were thrilled with the wonderful meal and attentive (but unobtrusive). I ordered the steak, which was impeccably cooked. We shared the calamari appetizer. In a world where calamari is too often fried to a crisp or left in a fishy pool, this was a delicious surprise. Beautifully cooked... More

I tried Bettola for the first time during the 2014 Birmingham Restaurant Week. The deal was an appetizer (a small crostini with ricotta and tomatoes), main course (chicken and potatoes) and tiramisu for dessert for a total of $30. On the positive side, each item was very flavorful and well prepared. On the other hand every item was much smaller... More

I have dined at Bettola's for a number of years now and it has been a real treat to see chef James Lewis continuously raise the bar on what good food and a great experience is. There is no masking food with sauces and heavy spices. This is classic Italian and Mediterranean style which relies on fresh, top quality ingredients... More
