Description: At Highlands the traditions of the American south meet the traditions of the South of France. Buttery colored walls with vintage French posters, warm lighting and crisp white linens help create a setting which is inviting and comfortable for business dinners, special occasions, or just a late evening supper for a weary traveler. Classic cocktails, a healthy selection of beers and a world class wine list just might entice you to come in a little early for your reservation. Or stop in for a cocktail after work and stay for dinner—we serve our full menu at the bar. The setting is ideal for impromptu or less formal occasions. Since 1982, Highlands has served a daily changing menu informed by classic French techniques and incorporating the foods of the region. Fresh gulf seafood, locally grown organic produce, and sustainably raised poultry, beef, veal, lamb and game are the foundations of the dishes created by James Beard Award winner Chef Frank Stitt.

This restaurant is excellent, but it is very high brow and they want to make sure that you know it by the prices. I had no complaints except that when I left, I had to go get a cheeseburger, cause I was starving! Oh yeah- and it was 1200 bucks for 8 people! Bring 2 credit cards just in case.... More

We were recently in Birmingham for my niece's memorial service (she had recently died from cancer), and my brother I wanted to have an uplifting evening with our families, and chose Highland's Bar and Grill. We saw that it was rated #1 on Trip Advisor (usually a good sign), and we were fortunate to receive some assistance in getting a... More

We were looking for a place to take our my husband's daughter for her graduation. I have never even been to Birmingham and so we had no idea where to go. We found Highlands on tripadvisor. We did not arrive until 0930 after he graduation which was the exact time for our reservation. We were greeted warmly and seated right... More

My mom and I were in town and did not have a lot of knowledge of the restaurants, but we stumbled upon Highland's online and then decided to go. What a good decision. We walked in, were seated immediately (we'd made reservations) and were taken care of the entire time! The waiter was super attentive and polite, without being around... More

My wife and I had a fantastic meal here while in town on business. I was unfortunately caught without a jacket and felt helplessly underdressed. We were nevertheless graciously welcomed. The servers were incredibly knowledgable on literally every ingredient in the house. We had a seasonal artichoke appetizer that was very good. We shared a steak as well as a... More

AMAZING! This restaurant is absolutely the best in all the right ways. From the time I walked in to the time I left I was treated like royalty.

My wife and I were in B-ham for a duathlon. My wife qualified for the World Championships so I wanted us to celebrate. I looked on TripAdvisor for the best meal in the city. Highland Bar and Grill was listed as # 1. Now I know why. We could not get a reservation because I called at 5PM. They said... More

From the farm eggs in the salad to the tonic water they make themselves and the staff every thing was superb. I can't think of a single thing that wasn't perfect. An amazing experience.

If you can take the noise this is a good option--menu-service and food are good---if you want to talk to your date/friends/wife (ha ha ) then maybe try somewhere else

We have been coming here since it opened. So that is many, many years. It is consistently excellent. Frank has done wonders with the food ,the staff and the building. I believe there is no better restaurant in Birmingham.
