The oyster selection was far reaching and served impeccably. A house staple and ever present menu item, the creamy grits with wild mushrooms and bacon is worth the trip to the restaurant by itself. Fresh fish and meat entrees are innovative and priced fairly. Wine list is exceptionally well-rounded, anything but cookie-cutter in selections and includes great values at every... More

This place epitomizes "fine dining." I truly can't think of a negative and I've been eating here since 1983. It is expensive; however, the food, service and atmosphere more than justify the prices. You are getting a dining experience, not just a meal. The martinis are flawless. You have your choice of oysters from many regions. Being a New Englander,... More

I lucked out and got to tag along with some colleagues on a business dinner. Truly a great restaurant. I really cant say anything bad. I had the Red Snapper and the Winter Salad. I have never had such a well seasoned salad and the fish was cooked perfectly! Prices weren't too high either considering how good the food was.... More

Needed a cocktail after a lousy day of traveling and they have about 10 interesting drinks on the menu. Wish I had 10 days here to try them all. Every single appetizer--soup, dishes, and salads, sounded really good. I had carpaccio and an oyster dish that were both excellent. For dinner I had Triggerfish, although the Grouper also sounded really... More

I have been dining at Highlands for 20 years now. Over the years, many of Frank Stitt's trainees have opened up fine restaurants around the city and can match the quality of the food at Highlands. However, the main difference in Highlands and the rest of the restaurants that charge similar prices is the service. The quality of the service... More

VERY solid restaurant in Birmingham. Amercian menu, but near the coast, several seafood items to choose from. Deep wine list with wines from $28-300. Wait staff was very pleasant. Had the duck which was terrific.

Frank Stitt's flagship restaurant does not disappoint. The lively bar is a great place to sit for a drink or a full service dinner. The food is always incredible, and the staff are on top of their game. Go there. A lot.

I'm sorry, but I've never understood the appeal of this place. The food is not memorable, although I do remember a horrible sauce I was served on my entree once. It's OK food, bigger than average prices, and a lot of snooty people trying to be "with it". I enjoyed my night out with the people I was with last... More

Comfortable but not stuffy atmosphere, attentive but not intrusive service, good food - this was a good choice for dining with friends. The room sits many people and was slightly too loud for my taste but i guess this is part of the desired ambience. The appetizers (especially the grits) were good, the entree portions on the smaller side but... More

We went to Highlands for a Christmas dinner - 6 people. My wife ordered the lamb and she liked it. I ordered the Black Grouper and it was fantastic. Every time I have dined at Highlands it has been great.
