Look. . .one of the great things about living in Birmingham is that you can actually have an argument about which restaurant is the best. I have yet to hear an argument or eat somewhere that would unseat Frank Stitt's Highlands Bar & Grill from its perch as the top dog. It is the granddaddy of the premier, independently-owned restaurants... More

This restaurant is number one for a reason, as my wife an I discovered last night. It would be a sin to not eat here if you travel to Birmingham. Begin with the reservation (a must) -- we were seated immediately. Our waiter was perfectly attentive, knowledgeable and charming. The drinks -- the Orange Mistake was no mistake. One of... More

Highlands is one of America's best. Six years in a row on the BEST list from James Beard. Highlands is the flagship of Chef Frank Stitt's empire. Highlands was one of the first to use the farm to table concept and after 20 years is still going and getting better every year.

My husband and I were on a culinary tour of the South and ended up in Birmingham. Highlands Bar and Grill far exceed our expectations. We have eaten at many fine restaurants and this was one of our highlights- friendly service and incredible food. We hope to go there next year!

I'm a New Yorker visiting with friends in Birmingham. This was my first time to the city and to this restaurant. I was impressed by the NY chicness, with a dose of Southern charm. The food was awesome and the service couldn't be any better. Oysters and pork belly and scrumptious desserts...and don't forget the wine! Oh, and we got... More

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary dinner at Highlands Bar & Grill. We had consistently heard amazing things about the restaurant, but had never been able to try it out ourselves. After our first experience, I can tell you we will be visiting much more. The atmosphere is incredible & makes you feel like you are in a scene... More

Had dinner here before a concert. You DEFINITELY need reservations. Place packed out by 7. Our server, Steve, was awesome. He humored me with full descriptions of various items and even came up with a drink for my non-drinking husband which was nice. It was made w/homemade roasted & pressed pecans & bourbon - very cool! They had a great... More

We made a getaway to Birmingham from Atlanta for my wife's birthday, in large part because she'd read a review of this restaurant in the New York Times and wanted to try it. Honestly, I was not overly impressed with the menu I’d reviewed on-line, and I generally have found that well-reviewed restaurant often lead to high but disappointed expectations.... More

This restaurant is a jewel. I have entertained visitors from many parts of the country at Highlands, and all have been impressed with the outstanding dining experience. Frank Stitt combines ingredients in creative ways. Even when the description on the menu leaves me skeptical, the outcome is a delightful surprise. In addition, the service is always wonderful!
