I have business in Birmingham about one day a week and I've found The Purple Onion is a good place to go for good food, quick service at a reasonable price. Nothing fancy, that's right up my alley. Better than a fast-food joint, The Purple Onion is the place I go when in Birmingham. So, if you have time for... More

The Purple Onion on 10th St in Birmingham is not a fancy place. Mainly a good lunch place ...or take out. It has air conditioned boothes inside (important in summer) and a large outdoor patio with lots of various sized tables that are comfortable in late fall and spring. But the draw here for me is the Greek plates. And... More

Eat here all the time for lunch. Purple onion was the last meal I had before I went in to give birth to my oldest child! Love the mushrooms and philly roll.

Good food for guilty pleasure. Great gyros. Very affordable. It's nothing fancy, neither the food nor the service. But, if started out a party evening or winding one down, this is a great place to be.

We ordered the gyro and the falafel with fries. All items tasted delicious and the place was well lit and clean. It took quite awhile to get our food though. Wish it hadn't taken so long.

I've loved this place for YEARS!!! My absolute fave is to add ranch to my cheese fries! I know, I know, heart attack waiting to happen, but even back in my UAB visiting days I HAD to have them! The place is really small so hope you aren't claustrophobic...but the food is worth any crowding and wait. Plus, the staff... More

This place is nothing to write home about in terms of ambiance, but their hummus is the best. Open late, too!

I love the chicken fingers and fries. Best mushrooms I've ever had. Burgers are great. Ribeye steak roll up is delish. I'm a stickler for honey mustard and they have the BEST. Love their fries. Steak kabob plate is great!

Well, for starters, we waited almost a half hour for our food. The only reason we stayed was the fact that it was late and we did not want to have to find somewhere else to go. Secondly, when we got the food, it was not good. I would not eat here again.
