This is one of those places that is a little expensive for casual dining, but is so nice for a little bit of a special occasion - or for when you have a hankering for he best grilled artichokes on the planet. We were most recently there for my birthday by my choice. It was going to be a 45-minute... More

We have been going to J. Alexander's Restaurant for many years and it is a treat every time we go. We go for both pleasure and business. The best way to describe this restaurant is consistently consistent. Over the years I have tried most of the items on the menu. They are all prepared with and attention to detail and... More

Nice business atmosphere. The Thai salad was a good blend of crunch with sweet and sour. Well done. One off the menu item is the chicken salad sandwich. My colleague had it and said it was excellent. My other colleague had the cypress salad. He had the chicken grilled and left of the bacon (!!??). He seemed to be pleased... More

I went here on my birthday (alas, by myself) because I wanted the same experience I had in Tampa several years ago. The food was just as good, but I was not anticipating the expense. So, I was shocked by the ticket. I cannot afford to eat here again. Happy Birthday to me!

Wife and I enjoyed dinner so much, we came back the next day to have lunch also. The first taste of grilled artichokes appetizer was a home run on the quality and service. Prime rib and good selection of wine was a hit a well. Had to return for lunch and enjoy the artichokes again with flatbread. We will return... More

The ambiance was excellent, the wine selection was great, and the food was excellent. For a chain restaurant, J. Alexander's gets it right. I had the Maui Ribeye ($28). It was one of the best steaks I have had in a restaurant. The sweet sauce is somewhat similar to TGI Friday's JD sauce, but way better. My wife had the... More

We ate here twice during our golf trip. We had only planned on one visit but the group canned another reservation in order to come back to J Alexander. The restaurant does not take reservations so plan accordingly. Monday nights there are special pricing on some wine and this was a great bargain for a group dinner. The food is... More

These are so light, fluffy and delicious, that we have to go here for this everytime we are in Birmingham. They are served with delicious cole slaw and the best french fries. The salads are also superb!

Their beef carpaccio is my favorite. The only bad thing is that it is not available every day, only as a specialty. However, I have never eaten a bad meal here. Everything is consistently good.

I had visited J Alexander in Florida several years ago. The food and service back then was average. By contrast, the food in Birmingham/Hoover was very good. I had an amazing burger with very fresh meat and flavor. It is their house special. I highly recommend it.
