What I like even more than the BBQ at Saw's is the atmosphere, an unexpected pleasure with its low key decor in an area that can lean a heavily on the chichi.

Food is great and you get to know the people sitting next to you. Great BBQ. Great turnip Greens. Baked Potatoes the size of your head, topped with any kind of meat you want. Plenty to take home for dinner.

I had heard this was a great place to get barbeque. We ordered a pork plate and it was very ordinary. I have had better in lots of other local places. The place itself was crowded and unpleasant. I would not recommend going there. Parking is limited.

Words couldn't formulate how the food is. Tiny space filled with some heart and soul cooking. Located in the growing Avondale area, Saw's Soul kitchen is often open until late night, which pairs perfectly with the brewery two doors down. Seating is very limited, but there is seating around the side and Avondale usually allows you to sit and enjoy... More

This small kitchen has quite a following. We went early enough to get a table. I should have passed on the chicken...it was overdone! The pulled pork and the ribs were delicious, but I'm not really a fan of their sauce!

This take out place has great pork, wings, and chicken served over grits and/or greens or on a bun. Fried green tomatoes were excellent as was the chicken in white sauce. Spring for the extra BBQ sauce - its worth it. Take it over to Avondale Brewery for the perfect meal.

I went with some friends for lunch the other day. The first issue was winding through seated customers to get to the counter and place an order. Then you have to figure out who is actually in line and who is just waiting for their order. Seating is very limited. We sat outside (fortunately it was in the 50's this... More

everything i've ever tried is good. however, my fave is the pork n greens. the catfish and greens are a close second. it's really the best bbq in birmingham. shame they don't have ribs unless you go to the homewood location. nevertheless, it's one of the best hole in the walls i have eaten in. we worth it.

Yes, you will think twice about entering this establishment, but you will miss out if you pass on by. It looks like a run down shack from the outside, but the food at Saw's Soul Food Joint is some good eatin'! They have crazy combinations of food. My favorite is the Pork 'n Greens. Pulled bar b que pork, with... More

We had really high expectations after reading other reviews... The atmosphere is "way cool", we enjoyed sitting outside at the picnic tables!!! But we we found the food to be just OK. That said the onion ring (straws)were pretty "damn good" to quote my husband!!! The shrimp and grits were disappointing. The BBQ pork was tender & tasty but I... More
