Do not come to Birmingham and not eat here

Saw's Soul Kitchen, Saw's Juke Joint, or Saw Barbecue. Eating at one of these local restaurants is a must. Forget the barbecue you have heard about. These are the places. I live here.

You HAVE to try the Pork & Greens!! Cheese grits, turnip greens, BBQ meat, and the small crispy onion rings are so so so good! the BBQ is really good as a sandwich. And the banana pudding was good. Either go before or after lunch because there is very limited seating. Once we've been lucky and able to sit inside,... More

All and more if you are looking for a classic southern soul food kitchen. ...like something out of a Doors song. ... food that can make you feel like The Lizard King himself! I had pulled pork ..over greens and cheese grits..with onion rings. ...we were lucky enough to get a table inside with under the AC

The atmosphere was really cool. Meat was good, husband had ribs and I had chicken. The sides were awful. Beans tasted like they were straight out of the can and the macaroni and cheese was dried out, bland, and just plain gross.

I had carryout from this recommended spot during a business trip and wish I had more time to go back for more! The Pulled Chicken sandwich came with the Birmingham-area special white bbq sauce - sounds strange but was truly delicious! I looked it up afterward and it is a vinegar based/mayo/spices combo. Everyone else raved about the Sweet Tea... More

My husband has been spending a lot of time in Birmingham and this is his favorite bar b q place. The place is a walk up counter, no table service and barely any place to sit and eat - but the food holds up well if you take it out and eat at home or in a park.

Went to Saw's for the first time and have to say WOW!! The loaded potato with chicken and broccoli was amazing. Added a couple ribs for good measure and walked away completely satisfied and stuffed. Next time I'll skip a rib to save room for banana pudding. You must try the white BBQ sauce. Never heard of it before but... More

Whenever I travel, I make it a point to find a meal experience that will leave me wishing I could stay longer. This is one such place. Mouthwatering ribs and baked beans that rival some of the best I've had, I will definitely return for a second helping if I ever find myself in Birmingham again.

If you are looking for ambience, this is not your stop. But if you are looking for great food, please give this eatery a try. Had grits, greens, BBQ pork topped with thin, crispy, well seasoned onion rings. I'm always hesitant about onion rings due to greasiness. This dish was outstanding. My friend had a chicken sandwich - which had... More

A simple Google search (because my phone wasn't connecting to trip advisor for some reason!) resulted in dinner at this little gem and I am so glad! The staff was friendly and had great recommendations for the menu--I got Saw's Burger and fried okra and my friend got the Sweet Tea Fried Chicken and fries. Both were wonderful! Way more... More
