The best Hole-in-the-Wall in the South

If finishing second in Garden & Gun's Greatest Barbecue in the South Challenge doesn't say enough about the food at Saw's then I'll add my two cents. There are actually three Saw's in Birmingham and they are all pretty much the same. Small but friendly and cozy. But very big on taste. Every bite... read more

Saws local food environment makes it a good choice for any eating adventure. Wether it's a family outing or date night with your girlfriend Saw's souls kitchen will cater to whatever tickles your fancy. I personally love their sweet tea fried chicken and their white sauce.

Why? The greens must have been home grown because they were so tender they melted on the fork. They placed a huge pile of pulled pork on top then another huge topping of homestyle fried onions on the very top. On the bottom was a huge splat of yellow colored sweetened grits. Sugar makes everything taste better. If you don't... More

This is the kind of place that you see on movies and in shows (house of cards comes to mind) that is just tiny and very southern and extremely delicious. I got the pork and greens and it was to die for. They fry the okra whole. I wish I lived here so I could try everything. Everyone is friendly,... More

Stopped into Saw's Soul Food yesterday just when they announced BB King died. Seemed fitting to drown my. Sorrows in a pulled pork BBQ sandwich with sweet potato fries and banana pudding. BBQ was 5 star, as were the fries. Pudding was so-so. Place is really small and if weather was bad I would not have found a place to... More

The menu at Saws Soul Kitchen is different from other Saws restaurants. This little gem has specials like Pork and Greens served over creamy cheese grits- topped with shoestring fried onions- AMAZING ! It's where I take visitors for some real southern food. The fried pickles, wings, and burgers are not to miss either. It's small and you may have... More

This is one of the best BBQ joints in the country and yet there burgers are even better then the BBQ. Can't go wrong here. Very homely and run down, but amazing food.

A must stop if you are in Birmingham. Get the Pork and Greens with a side of wings, pulled pork and ribs. Everything is awesome.

While in town for a day I stopped at Saw's based on others' reviews. We tried chicken sandwiches with white sauce, deviled eggs, and the original baker. Not only did everything taste fresh, but it was all so good and very reasonably priced! I look forward to getting back there again. The place was busy, but I didn't wait long... More
