Fun experience and interesting spin on Italian

First off, the food is Italian, but it's not like the Italian food I've had in Italy. Then again, the Italian food I've had in the U.S. is often not like the Italian food in Italy, so I'm not going to criticize it for that. We tried several things including manicotti and some pasta with marinara... read more

I have to say that I expected more after reading so many reviews in the internet. It is not bad, but... It is a normal italian food. However, I thought the waiters were not very friendly or paying attention to you. We had to wait long to order and I could see them just there hanging around. It was "ok"... More

With 74 years of tradition, Maria Roperto's mother starting the restaurant. In tradition Italian district, the Roperto's restaurant served main courses generose and the test is awsome! Have a good food in Roperto's restaurant.

Excellent food although Carbonara sause was more corn starch then the proper sauce I've had before but still good. We also had Lasagna and it was awesome. Parking is right across from the restaurant. Host had a grumpy face, looked miserable. So did our waiter. They made the 4 of us feel unwelcome. I wouldn't go back as I value... More

A place that is been going since 1941 can't be all bad. As noted in previous reviews the decor is very retro and charming. I found the waiters to be friendly and the comments about them being a bit surly seem a bit strange. Perhaps it's written by people who don't speak Portuguese? If so, it's understandable that their reaction... More

A genuine italian resto, despite the mood of the waiter, with lovely italian music at lunch time! We went in couples and a really great time.

This is the best cantina in Sao Paulo, in my opinion. It is located in the heart of the Italian Neighborhood and the pasta and beef are just delicious. The dishes are normally big enough to share, so the price is not expensive at all.

I loved the old-style Italian feel, with all the photos of il padrone with Brazilian celebrities. The service was great, with a very large and chaotic group looked after well. I had an excellent capirinha (though I'm no expert). The food was mixed - very good salad, pasta a little over-cooked, with average sauces. Generous portions though. I can't comment... More

It's a well known Italian restaurant in Sao Paulo. I went there after a couple of years. I ate a fettutine pasta with bolonhese (meat and tomato) souce. The pasta wasn't "al dente" and the sauce was less than I could imagine. The dish was expansive related the quality.

The age-old question in a neighborhood filled with Italian restaurants is how to choose a good one. Well, you probably can’t go wrong with a place that has locals and regulars streaming in and out like Cantina Roperto. Inside is a bit of a time warp (the entrance is lined with photos of the owner with famous customers, live musicians... More

Staying in Bela Vista

Neighborhood Profile
Bela Vista
Known for its Italian cantinas, Bela Vista is the place to go for great pasta. Also called “Bixiga”, the area is an important cultural part of the city, with the bohemian and the religious costumes of its inhabitants on full display. In August, the large Nossa Senhora Achiropita party fills the streets with a variety of Italian food and music. You can experience the liveliness of the neighborhood walking through the antiquities fair at Dom Orione Square or visiting the “Brazilian Caminito”, a version of the Argentinian street complete with colorful buildings. Bela Vista is also home to the traditional samba school “Vai-Vai”. Buy a ticket to a rehearsal and get a taste of what Carnival is like.
