historic restaurant in Rio

We met our group here to start a food tour of Rio. The drinks and bolinhos de bacalhau are very good (though Boeing's st the Copacabana Palace were better). The restaurant is open late and we came back in the evening after going to a concert and really enjoyed the food!

This is a traditional place in the center of Rio - in a touristic area. Hence, you pay for it. The food is neither excellent nor bad, considering the location. The bolinhos are good, but not amazing. I did enjoy the goat and broccoli riz (in particular the rice - the goat was OK). In summary, if you are stranded... More

The codfish balls area amazing. One of the best I've had in Rio. This place is located in Lapa on a central busy street. There fresh juices are really good I had the pineapple and mint. Yummy. But seriously the best codfish balls in Rio. A must try with a everything else they have to offer. Recommended.

I went to this restaurant, with my daughter who lives in Rio. It was recommended to her. We went for lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant was opened in 1903! And it is in Rio's down town night-busy Lapa neighborhood. Restaurant was full. We ordered sausage for appetizer (average) and we shared their prime dish (according to waiter): roasted lamb... More

Traditional restaurant with Portuguese decor. Absolutely overrated and expensive. Food was mediocre, with the exception of the fairly good bolinhos de bacalhao. The famous goat with broccoli rice was overcooked and dry. Restrooms are awful. On the whole, a tourist trap.

Eating in Rio touristic areas is a big problem. This one, that have a good rating in Trip Advisor, has an average food, poor service, some cockroaches walking in the walls and ... it isn't cheap....

This Lapa neighborhood restaurant has been around forever. It's a traditional come as you are place with an old world feel. The bolinas de Bacalao (deep fried fish balls with potato) are delicious. This is not a trendy place but an established one.

It's a simple place (the way I like it), nice staff and amazing food. Specially if you order the tradicional lamb and brocolli rice. It's kind of expensive but it's not an everyday place you go.

Don't understand why it has such a good rating. Overpriced food (more expensive than in London), and rude staff. They won't serve you drink or coffee unless you'll order food straight away. Avoid!

I have been to this restaurant twice over several years on my visits to Rio. It has great atmosphere, tiled walls and floors, TV showing football and venerable old waiters. I was brought by a mutual friends from New York cool lives in Rio and knows everything everywhere there. One helping is enough for two people- portions are enormous. Full... More
