This Lapa neighborhood restaurant has been around forever. It's a traditional come as you are place with an old world feel. The bolinas de Bacalao (deep fried fish balls with potato) are delicious. This is not a trendy place but an established one.

It's a simple place (the way I like it), nice staff and amazing food. Specially if you order the tradicional lamb and brocolli rice. It's kind of expensive but it's not an everyday place you go.

Don't understand why it has such a good rating. Overpriced food (more expensive than in London), and rude staff. They won't serve you drink or coffee unless you'll order food straight away. Avoid!

I have been to this restaurant twice over several years on my visits to Rio. It has great atmosphere, tiled walls and floors, TV showing football and venerable old waiters. I was brought by a mutual friends from New York cool lives in Rio and knows everything everywhere there. One helping is enough for two people- portions are enormous. Full... More

Meat is dry. No one eats here except tourists and to give you an idea, there were only 2 other tables at prime dinner time. The English menu had no prices. And the waiter up sold me boat when they didn't have suckling pig. It was dry like pork jerky. Also don't order the Portuguese egg tarts, they're old and... More

We went there with some hesitancy because there were some negative reviews. It was a walk thru a sketchy area from the cathedral- which is worth the visit. The place was empty. There is no goat only lamb though it appears that there is considerable confusion about this. The Caipirinhas were terrible. Tasted like the limes had sat in the... More

Just not very good! Trying to understand what all the rave is about. The only thing we really liked were the cod fish balls. They gave us the English menu and there were no prices listed. We thought it couldn't be too much since tripadvisor put the range between $15-30. My husband ordered cod Provençal. I ordered the half order... More

Lapa is one of the most traditional neighbourhoods in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Nova Cappella is one of the most traditional restaurants in this neighbourhood and, therefore, one of the most traditional in the city. The food is of high quality and they have some exotic dishes like wild "javali". The most popular dish is roasted goat with broccoli rice.... More

Went there on recommendation of a long-time Rio expat. The restaurant has the old-time feeling: waiters in white dinner jackets who not only bring your food to your table but also serve a portion onto your plate. I tried the deep-fried codfish ball (I think it's R$4 each) which was very good. Then I had their famous roast baby goat... More
