An historical restaurant in the lively area of Ipanema, here you can eat a delicious picanha and spend a nice time with your friends or colleagues.

We went here for the history and chose the highly recommended picanha beef between the two of us. The language barrier was a bit of an issue but nevertheless really enjoyed our meal.

Popular with tourists because it's where The Girl from Ipanema was penned and was a primary hangout of Vinicius and Jobim during the golden decades of Bossa Nova. During carnival, the street was rowdy and extremely crowded but a bouncer at the door kept guard and made sure non-clients stayed out and the diners dined in peace. I am not... More

We went for the story (Jovin was sitting there when he saw the girl that inspired the famous song), but were pleasantly surprised by the really nice food (particularly the barbecue churrasco) and beautiful, simple and elegant ambience. We are definitely going back.

Where directed there by local bossa-nova afficionado. Got a table within 10min of arrival (on a sunday night). Excellent steak frite. Server cut our meat with a spoon! good wine. french brasserie style service. effective, rapid if not very friendly. Crowd is a mix of locals and tourist. Ambiance is nice and decor is full of memorablia from tom Jobin... More

My friend and I were in Rio for 4 nights and we ate here twice, that alone should say something. Both times we ordered the picana steak that was served table side in our own skillet which allowed us to each cook our steak to our own liking. It was a really cool interactive dinner experience that was delicious. I... More

It was late, we were hungry and we stopped in here mainly because of its historic associations. We ordered two capirinhas--strong and good. We ordered the Picanha Bradileira which Lonely Planet recommends as the only worthwhile thing to eat here. The Picanha Brasileira is a quantity of seared, sliced rump steak which comes on a spitting hot skillet with a... More

Decent restaurant filled with history: the iconic song "La garota d'Ipanema" was written there. In the evening, the restaurant is constantly full, which makes it rather crowded and loud. The service and food is OK but nothing extraordinary. I would go with the picanha but be warned the portions are huge. Nothing better than some nicely cooked Brazilian beef with... More

The only reason to go out of your way to get to this spot are the many pictures and mementos related to Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes who used to hang out here and watched the eponymous girl walk past. The caipirinhas are excellent but the food as standard fare. We liked the place because we like Bossa Nova.

We spent two evenings and had two great dinners there. Quite expensive, but it was worth the price. You really must try picanha brasileira (don't be scared with the price, you can share it for two). We met two Alitalia flight attendants, we flew to Rio from Rome there - and they must know, where you can find great food... More
