I am pleased to say that the menu and food at Garota de Ipanema was very good indeed and I thought reasonably priced compared to the fast food restaurants after fast bucks. The restaurant has many visual reminders of the world-wide hit song The Girl From Ipanema. There is a free Internet service at the restaurant and we could not... More

As a Bossa Nova fan this place is something of a sacred site, so one just has to go there! I give this restaurant great credit for maintaining high standards of food quality and service when it could easily just cash-in on its fame. The food is good, I have always found the service fast and pleasant and yes it... More

Poor service, loud chatting, no music (just hanging saxophones and TV's with advertising), pretty basic tourist menu and awful caipirinhas! Thanks god for some random street-musicians going around the restaurants and performing some classical bossa-nova tunes. If you are not a couple but a party for 3 or more - prepare to wait for a table. It's usually packed. Don't... More

Of course it is one of the places you have to go when you are in Rio. The "Girl from Ipanema" makes the restaurant worth a visit. Food and waiters are les important. Most of the quest are tourists.

It feels absolutely great to be right there where the song Girl from Ipanema was written. The restaurant hasn't changed much since that time. Everybody seemed to be eating the grill but we were not very hungry so we opted for another dish. We spoke only a little Spanish and no Portuguese, thus, there was some communication problem with the... More

Good ambiance and food, decent value. But you have to go because it is where Tom Jobim wrote Garota de Ipanema. It has good karma. Check it off your list.

Iconic place forbossa nova fans. Simple and good food, typical brazilian cousine. Ask for picana, raw beef you cook by yourself. Affordable pricing.

A mythic place where the composers Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes used to drink and stay. I knew it many years ago, when it was called Veloso. Crowded, specially on weekends. Very good Picanha à Brasileira (meat served on a hot iron grill) and draft beer. Relatively expensive. One of my favorites in Rio.
