Good recommendation from hotel

We asked at the front desk of our hotel and were recommended this place. It was very good, good sized portions and we had complimentary caiparinhas to start. Good bacalhau and I had a very good moqueca. Not so cheap but then the main courses were big enough for nearly two people so if we had been... read more

The fish we ate was delicious and very fresh, but the sauce was missing salt, and with no taste! Same thing for the moqueca. It's really too bad because for that price, i'm sure they could make a wonderful dish. The portions were very generous though. We took two "full" dishes (which were supposed to be for 4 people even... More

Visited here through trip advisor recommendations, proved worthy of endorsement by my overly fussy parents visiting from the UK! Service was friendly and in English. It was as fast as appropriate when food is cooked fresh. When it arrived, dishes were huge - you have to love a country where the portions are too large to be put on your... More

The hotel recommended us this place and we got lost trying to find it, but out of complete luck we asked a stranger who happened to be a manager at the restaurant and walked us to the entrance, talk about a great fist impression. We had caipirinha's to drink, Oysters (which apparenlty Horseraddish does not exist in Brazil) and split... More

You may have to to take a taxi to this place but it is worth it . The fish was the freshest and served beautifully. We ordered the 1/2 portion and none in our party could finish their portion. We went at 7 and had the place to ourselves. Best fish I had in Rio or all of Brazil.

I am not sure what we ate but it was fresh and delcious! Be prepared, the menu is Portuguese and the waiter did not speak English. Using our Spanish, we were able to communicate we wanted fresh and good tasting fish, and that is what we got. We ordered something designed for two people and it was way more than... More

One of the challenges in Rio for visitors located in Copacabana is to find the restaurants that are frequented by locals and good value for the money. Simply put, O Peixe Vivo is such a place, off the tourist strip but conveniently near it on Rua Tonelero in easy walking distance from the beach. The fish was fresh and perfectly... More

Excellent service, humongous portions and very very good food! Was there during Carnival, and they had a big TV showing the action in the Sambadrome while we indulged in the excellent food. Unfortunately I left this review way too late and cannot remember what we had, but I just remember being very happy with my food and a little intimidated... More

We were recommended this restaurant by our receptionist just a short stroll from our hotel (arena) we thought we'd give it a go. There is an outdoor bit covered as well as the main restaurant, extensive menu with shrimp, mussels octopus, prawns and much much more. The waiting staff were fantastic extremely attentive and friendly. Most dishes come for one... More

Patronized by Copacabana locals and with an excellent website, O Peixo Vivo is a well-run and hospitable Brazilian restaurant with traditional flourishes. The items on a large menu, most of which can be ordered for one (meia) or two persons (inteira), include churrasco misto (grilled meats) and moqueca de camarão (shrimp stew made with coconut milk and lime). To accompany... More
