Traditional and Noisy

If you happen to be in downtown Rio, make sure you visit Bar Luiz. On one of the main historic streets, this bar was founded by germans. This is also why you are sure to find two great things: great draft beer and one of the best german style pork chops (Kassler) in town. The potato salad that comes with... More

As their motto claims. We found it after visiting Saara Market and was a right decision. Lots of prices hang on their walls, recognizing one of the best restaurants in Rio as traditional cuisine. They serve German food and you mustn't miss their potatoes salad. The place it's very charm and many locals in there.

Around for 125 years, Bar Luiz on the Rua Carioca is a traditional downtown favourite with a solid unchanging menu. Its physical appearance as a German beer hall is matched by a menu specializing in chopp (beer), excellent potato salad, and a variety of tasty sausages and salt meats. Hidden away on the large menu is a chicken cutlet served... More

Lovely lunch of traditional German food! My partner and I shared a mixed plate for one and it was too much for us to finish (and we like to eat!!). The rib was absolutely delicious and the potato salad was quite possibly the best I have ever had. Highly recommend!

One the few places downtown with reasonable prices, and a good quantity of food. Beer on draft is fabulous, Roast beef and potato salad an absolute must.

You go for the ambience and nursery food. When the weather is bad or you are feeling low, go to BL for a few uplifting beers and sausages with potato salad. A blast from the past. The knuckle of pork is also excellent. Nothing nouvelle in sight.

We were expecting a very traditional place, but minimally adapted to our era, but we found a Bar/restaurant that stopped 30 years ago. The service was medium, the food nothing special.
