Dining during carnival an amazing experience

This is a special place that we had dinner at during the carnival and it was a special experience. The resturant is basic by any standards but the food was great, we had mini pastels to share as a starter excellent. For the main course we had tradition beef, rice and beans and it was great. Ate here last week and wasn`t disappointed. This place is in the heart of Santa Teresa and has a great atmosphere. Lots of locals and a few tourists enjoying a good night out! My steak was full of flavour and plenty of it! Enjoy!

We had a relatively early dinner here and found, even then, we were lucky to get a spot as there were a number of tables already reserved, with more and more people filling up available spots. This little joint is very cool: we loved the bric a brac used to decorate the interior and the food is very good value.... More

If you can get a seat that is... Had the local sawdust and beans dish which was great. Atmosphere was lovely. Waiters seemed bored out of their brains but were pretty responsive. Recommended if you are this side of Rio.

This is a delightful place for lunch. On a Friday noontime, it was bustling with tourists and locals. There is lots of interesting art and pictures throughout. Service was leisurely. Three of us had Feijoada, the traditional Portuguese pork-beef and black bean stew. It was served with rice, sauteed greens and manioc flour(a little too gritty for my palate). Orange... More

The place is small, filled with some great kitschy pop art, and at lunch on a Friday was packed with locals. The star was the Feijoada, the Portuguese bean and pork/beef stew that is one of Brazil's national dishes. The stew was hearty and had that home cooked authenticity that I was craving. Serve with manioca, rice, greens and orange... More

Bar do Mineiro was exactly the Brazilian dining experience I was looking for. The food was authentic and flavorful and the casual restaurant was full of locals. It was also fun to walk around the neighborhood, lots of nearly bars and galleries. My husband and I had water, caipirinhas, the pastel appetizer (loved the mixed pastel.. tried around 10 kinds)... This was and excellent choice for lunch. With great service, good food and with the local people. So was good. Anthony Bourdain filmed a segment of his food tv show there. So you know it was good. Small, so get there early. I don't know the price, Hubby paid the bill. I would recommend it if you want something different... More

If you're visiting Rio you have got to make sure this is one of the restaurants you'll be eating during your stay. Make sure you chose a sunny day so you can enjoy the neighborhood afterwards. The restaurant is pretty small and extemely crowded so, unless you're ready to start with the drinks and some fingerfood standing on the sidewalk,... More
