Had the opportunity to visit here after a local tour guide recommended it to me. So glad they did, I would have missed a wonderful experience otherwise. The restaurant is from a bygone age and it's wonderful huge mirrors from Antwerp make it a great place to try some local specialities. I was overwhelmed by the choice of sweet and... More

We were told by a local to go here. We had no idea what to expect. The place was beautiful. It has been in business for 120 years and you can see how it would have been at that time with all the decor. We really enjoyed our meal alos.

The Confeitaria is a much talked about tourist attraction in Rio. The big problem is finding the place. It is actually within a short walking distance from the massive SAARA market in Centro, the central part of the city. It is tucked away in a narrow backstreet. Not the sort of area you would expect a major tourist attraction, but... More

Last time I visited Rio was a year ago, nevertheless on all my trips to the Cidade Maravilhosa, I take the time to visit this place, Since my first visit to Rio 28 years back....this place is consistent with great service, great local and international fare, and very good pastries.

Opened since 1893 a part of the Historical and Artistic Heritage of Rio, this restaurant has been visited by notable people such as King Albert of Belgium in 1920, Queen Elizabeth in 1968 and even great writers, politicians and artists who marked the history, it also has a beautiful collection displayed at Memorabilia Hall that has an amazing art nouveau... We visited this on a recommendation from a tour guide and it was well worth the visit. Amazing Art Nouveau dining room, fabulous food - my daughter had a selection of croquettes and I had a massive club sandwich followed by cakes. We were seated immediately and the service was good. When I struggled with the menu (my Portugese is... More

We visited based on a recommendation. A long line awaited us, but we were seated in 20 minutes. While waiting we perused the many showcases of the desserts available. All of them looked delicious and fresh and they were. Once seated no one came over to us to take our order. After 20 minutes we flagged down one of the... More

The 19th century building and wood, mirror and glass interior is spectacular. It is well worth poking your head in if you are walking around Centro. The snacks and sweets are very good. Try a cachaça tart! Tea on the top floor is an option for those who like that in the afternoon. Coffee drink? Be warned. A cappuccino will... More

If you are in Rio and walking around downtown, you must stop at this place. The old building where it stands is just amazing. Food and desert are also a temptation. You won't regret.
