I'm hesitant to write this review as more of you will find out about this gem in the small city of Algoma, Wisconsin. Many Illinois residents pass right by on their way to Door County - the Cape Cod of the Midwest. Please keep on going. The reason: This restaurant is very small. Only 4 or 5 bistro tables and... Skaliwags is a tiny little bar/restaurant with a topnoch chef turning out great food from kitchen smaller than a typical trailer house. staff is friendly and atmosphere is excellent. Come early as seating is very limited. Order soon as the small cooking area can cause a back log in orders, but the food is well worth the wait.

This is a fabulous restaurant in a very small town that has been soooo needing a really,, really GOOD restaurant. There are the usual pizza place(s) and family style restaurants, but this one, dears, is really, REALLY first class. The facility is truly a hole in the wall. If you're not there when they open (and check for the hours),... More

Two couples on their first visit, all of us very well aware of the NO RESERVATIONS policy and GET THERE EARLY. They open on Sat. at 4:30, we walked in at 4:43, packed restaurant, but 11 open chairs. I sat at a table with six chairs and a waitress immediately told me I could not sit there. I asked if... More

I have eaten here four times and the service seems to decline as the prices go up. An appetizer is comparable to the entree in price. The food is great, but it is diminished by the constant waiting for the next interaction with the server. Prices aren't posted so buyer beware. I would pay the high price for this great... More

Why can't every restaurant be like this?? Quality ingredients, thoughtful preparation, friendly environment. We stumbled upon this place completely on accident. We thought the name was charming...and before walking in I actually quickly looked it up on tripadvisor from my iphone. I cautiously told my fellow travelers that the reviews looked really, really positive. I was skeptical, I'll admit. Just... More

My husband and I happened upon Skaliwag's by the recommendations of the local wine tasting. Can't remember them but Skaliwag's is still ingrained in our memories...we will return. After years of working in gourmet catering I have to say they were amazing. we planned the remainder of our trip so we could return for another meal. If you want a... More

What amazing food!! Chef Chris has hit the mark on this one. We heard about Skaliwags from some friends and made the drive out there. It is entirely worth it! Everything is so fresh and the flavors are outstanding. The interaction with the guests is so fun, you can tell the Chef is really busy but he makes it a... More

This is certainly the best food if in the area. Though I probably won't be making the hour drive to dine here often. The atmosphere is very laid back. If you're like me and can't read 1/2 inch size letters on a board from 20 feet away, you'll need to get up to peruse the menu on the wall. Which... More

Much better than would be expected when you walk into this tavern. The only thing that keeps me from giving Skaliwags 5 stars s the dingy interior and the minimally comfortable dining area. The food, especially the Dalit specials, is outstanding. Be aware, this is not an inexpensive restaurant. However, it s certainly the mat creative dining option in the... More
