Have eaten here 4 times in three years. Frequent traveler on I-95. Always stay at the Hampton, and most times eat here. Really up and down, both food and service. Some nights the staff is wonderful young people focused on their job. Other times hanging around the bar or outside? Have had some quality meals on occasions, sometimes poor, cold... More

If you live in Ashland Virginia you know that your choices for dining are extremely limited. Iron Horse is a great locals place in the summer to sit and dine on the railroad tracks. The manager is super friendly and the wait staff is attentive. I actually cancelled a reservation at The Jefferson to give Iron Horse a try on... More

The Iron Horse found its name from having a location beside the railroad tracks. Who would have thought that a location just a short distance from railroad tracks could support a luxury dining experience? It does, the trains seem like part of the entertainment or blend into the background. The ambiance of the open old brick oven kitchen and cozy... More

Great place to kick back and relax for a great meal, The waite service is awesome and very attentive. It's nice to see the train coming into town while your having dinner. I have gone here for both lunch and dinner with friends who moved down to the Ashland area, and have never been disappointed. I travel the east coast on... More

My most recent visit, where I took four friends for a special occasion on a Monday night, found the excellant service was paired with the total inability of the kitchen to provide any of the first three entree options, after the waiter took our orders. As portrayed, my first special order of Cod was reportedly "burned" by the chef, so... More

The food was excellent and geared toward the lovely fall weather. The pumpkin soup was outstanding as was the Ahi Yellow fin Tuna. The waitress was a little ditzy serving us the wrong wine for the second bottle, mixing the two wines in our glasses and she kept forgetting what we ordered! However, she was extremely pleasant and apologetic.

We stopped in AshlAnd without a clue as to where to stop. Had a very good lunch and an excellent dessert. Server was very busy so service is a bit slower than we like but no complaints. Would go back on our return trip North. Funky fun decor and very clean.

My wife, two daughters (16 and 13) and i went to Ashland for a meal on our way to Patrick Henry's home, Scotchtown. We actually were going to one of the top rated places to eat in Ashland, according to Tripadvisor, but found they close on Saturdays at 3 o'clock. We saw Iron Horse a block away and it seemed... Went to Ironhorse for lunch. Sat outside on a beautiful day. The waiter was polite and attentive. Everyone seated outside began to migrate inside because of the numerous honey bees swarming all around (we followed). From that point on, the service went straight downhill and when the food came out 20 minutes later it only got worse. The soup I... More

Stopped for dinner on a Friday night. There was a large party there so the kitchen was a little back up. They told us in advance and that was not a problem...we weren't in any hurry. Food was good...pot roast was very tender and chicken super juicy but a little salty. My complaint was the noise level...very hard to hear... More
