Business Dinner there - Great food and service

I was in town for a small conference and the conference dinner (~40ppl) was held at the Iron Horse. Began with a cocktail hour in one room and then dinner in the main dining room. Seeing that it was my first time in Ashland, and the town seemed small and average - The Iron Horse was refreshingly... read more

Really great steak, salad was fresh, the wine was also very good. The desert, pecan pie, seemed store bought. That was, if pressed for one, the only low point.

Nice atmosphere, excellent food, very attentive waiters. For an appetizer we had the salmon deviled eggs and they were out of this world good! Steaks were perfect.

With over 50 trains a day running through the center of town there is always some "iron horse" visible from the dining rooms and up close on the sidewalk tables. Both AMTRAK passenger and CSX very long freights pass right outside this top Ashland restaurant. On our visit we enjoyed a perfectly prepared sirloin filet accompanied by shrimp and grits.... More

Fun restaurant in cool downtown area of ashland. trains seem to run by every half our or so which was somewhat unique. Service was very friendly tho there were a few minor errors. Food was pretty good - they were really busy that night which may have been why most of meat entrees were a little undercooked, but it was... More

We stopped in for Brunch on a cool Sunday morning, so there was no train watching as we ate inside. Rats. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, they sounded interesting. Poached eggs, Fried Green Tomatoes and Crab Cakes. The fried tomatoes were cold, crab cake tepid, but the poached eggs were just right. The home fries were nicely sliced and served... More

Located in the heart of Ashland, VA and right next to the railroad tracks which course thru the center of the city this charming restaurant is aptly named. The food was imaginative and very well prepared and the service was excellent. My hanger steak entree was outstanding and tender--well flavored from a delicious marinade. The crab and salmon cakes were... More

We've often wanted to eat at the Iron Horse which has a great location a few feet away from the train tracks in Ashland. On a warm Saturday afternoon we attempted to have lunch and got a nice table overlooking the tracks outside. So much fun to see the (3) trains which went by. However, the food was unbelievably bad.... More

Everything was nearly perfect, except the portion of food was a little small. Service was OK. Loved watching the trains go by.
