Quick weekend lunch for a birthday celebration

I can't say enough nice things about the wonderful weekend lunch we had at Jaleo Crystal City. It was a special occasion, and I called ahead to speak with the sommelier about having an outstanding cava ready, chilled, on the table when we arrived. DONE - we had the 2008 Reccardo which as dry and... read more

I've eaten tapas at places with half the hype and pretentiousness, yet with better tasting food and larger quantities. I realize people enjoy patting themselves on the back for eating at fairly hip, high end places, but there has to be a point where people ask themselves, "I spent $100 for a party of two for this?" Honestly, the food... More

We tend to sit at the bar when going out to eat. Our bartender was knowledgeable and friendly. He actually let us taste 3 different wines so we could make our decision.

Of Jose Andres' tapas restaurants, I think I like Jaleo least. Don't get me wrong - the menu is massive which alone means someone can always find something to eat, the desserts are tasty, and the staff is always pleasant and attentive. But I find the flavors pop more at some of the other restaurants.

We haven't eaten at a Jaleo in a few years, typically because we are closer to Las Tapas or La Tasca in Alexandria, but we ate here last night after flying into DCA in order to save time. Wow, their prices vs. portions are crazy. An order of Manchego cheese, at $8.50, consisted of TWO small pieces! Other places would... More

The title of this review says it all...each dish we ordered (which was over a dozen tapas items between the two of us!) was remarkable. The dishes were thoughtfully balanced and accurately described. Additionally, the server knew the dishes well and assisted us in making additional selections which were spot on. The red snapper and the scallops were outstanding seafood... More

Stuck in Crystal City for a conference I wandered down the street to find a place to eat. After passing the Chik fil A, M & s, Ruth Chrities, and Buffalo Wings I found Jaleo! Having lived in Barcelona I was ready for some Jamon Serrano and the other tasty delights on the menu. Red Snapper was exquisite, Catalan Bean... More

You have to hand it to Jose Andres, who has three JALEO restaurants in the DC area, and is expanding to other cuisines in his thinkfoodgroup.com Creative dishes using fresh ingredients in all the tapas, desserts and drinks. This one in Crystal City is less crowded than the others in the evening. Plenty of parking.

Possibly the fifth or sixth time I've had dinner at Jaleo's - this time a birthday celebration for my wife. Everything was excellent! We were seated immediately, the service was outstanding throughout the meal. All of our questions were thoroughly answered, our selections were all brought out in a timely manner (usually not by your primary waiter which is fine... More

I literally was in heaven the whole time I was eating. The food is amazing here. My boyfriend and I ordered 3 dishes each, I got bacon wrapped fried dates (my favorite) a perfect blend of sweet with salty, Patatas Bravas are incredible with a garlicy aioli, and the chorizo with mashed potatoes which were so velvety. My boyfriend ordered... More
