This Clarendon Classic Still Has It!

In the mood for some good solid Mexican-Salvadoran food? Maybe it’s Thursday night and you want to meet friends for some margaritas, guacamole and people watching? If you’re in Clarendon, you need to try Mexicali. This casual restaurant simply serves great delicious food and drinks. I often... read more

Went here with friends currently living in DC. Had the tacos (chicken, steak, shredded beef). Gotta say the beef was the best. The beans and rice were also very good complements to the meal. Got a lot of food considering it was not very expensive.

The traditional burrito is on special on Tuesdays and you can wash it down with a special on Coronas. Good weather makes for a crowded sidewalk seating area with a great view of the sidewalk from the inside in the winter.

I met a friend here for lunch. My expectations weren't high, mainly because it is advertised as serving two different types of cuisine - Mexican and Salvadorian. My expectations were blown away. The food was great! I ordered from the Salvadorian specialties - a pork & cheese papusa and Juana's tamal with chicken. Both were very good and inexpensive. The... More

Went Friday night with a large group. Hostess did a great job making room for us. we sat in the back corner near the bar which was perfect for our gathering- separate enough so everyone could get to know each other and socialize without interruptions or annoying other guests but near enough to receive great attention from the waitstaff. Our... More

I can't remember how long I've been coming to Mexicali Blues - it has to be 15 years or more. Regardless, it occupies one of the prime spots in Clarendon and has been helping residents young and old stay fed, and happy with Tequila for as long as I can remember. What stands out about Mexicali is that it's a... More

The regular burros (not burritos) are huge, and the best I have had. They come wrapped up in aluminum foil - very practical for such a huge dish, and if you eat anything else you will want to take half of it home. I prefer the steak. The steak salad is topped with excellent grilled steak, another favorite. Fajitas are... More

Was here for lunch and it was a quaint little place. The atmosphere was nice and food was good! We had a waiter who said he was new but he was very attentive and nice. We all loved the food.

I was here for happy hour the other night. We ordered charred chicken quesadillas and a large order of the nachos. They both were very good. I would go back to this place. Happy hour was buy one app get another free so that was good.

We were seated directly in front of the restrooms. That made my experience unappetizing to start with. Someone would open the door to the restroom and I would get a view of a man urinating. I guess I should be happy that's all I saw. The restaurant was packed and moving was not an option. The place was poorly managed... More
