Eat like the President of United States

The owner's name is Hailo Dama, and his sister does all the baking. It was mentioned to me that his sister learned the trade from the White House baker during the Regan era. So I guess the pastries you eat at Dama will have the same favor as Ronald when he was in the White House. This is an... read more

It was Friday evening and we just wanted to try something new. After reading all the great reviews, we decided to try this place because it was close to Pentagon City. The outside looks like a hole in the wall. We were lucky to find a parking spot. We were seated right away. We ordered vegetarian combo, fish and beef... More

A bakery with great Chocolate cake, capuccino, grocery store with pre-made injera and Ethiopian restaurant; all rolled in one! My friend who took me there said the owner used to be a pastry chief for the White House! The restaurant was packed with Ethiopians on a Friday afternoon. Great food! We had the vegetarian combo and the beef ribs. Not... More

We tried to eat here one morning at around 8:15. I had read great reviews about the breakfast. The menu on the wall had a breakfast menu. We entered the restaurant and the chairs were upside down on the tables. We were then told they didn't open until 9:00. We then went to Bob and Edith's Diner.

This bakery is a perfect example of "not all that glitters is gold" - its shabby and crabby but makes great cakes! You can have a cafe in the Palace of Versailles but if you aint making stuff upto par - do yourself a favor and GTFO! Back to Dama and its crusty lookin cakes which actually are amazing LOL... More

Food quality is off the hook. Place is a right hand turn and 1,000 feet out of the Arlington air force monument, which is breathtakingly beautiful and a proper tribute to the worlds best air force! Highly recommend this restaurant and bakery to those seeking a unique experience infused with insanely great food and friendly service. I present dama with... More

The bakery was a short walk from the Sheraton where we were staying. We ordered French toast with eggs. It was the best French toast I have eaten. We enjoyed it so much that we came back a second day. The staff were friendly. They also had many pastries and beautiful cakes.

Just down the road from the Pentagon, in an unlikely location more or less beneath the Sheraton Hotel, the Dama Bakery transports its customers from the Eastern US to the Ethiopian highlands in a few seconds. Like others I enjoyed excellent injera with spicy sauces and can highly recommend this surprisingly good café and restaurant. There's no license to sell... More

We stayed at Sheraton and looked for a place for dinner. We found this on Trip Advisor and the reviews did not lie. This place is a gem, very tasty food, nice people and perfect service. As novices to Ethiopian cousine we had vegeterian combo and lamb and both were delicious. We highly recommend to visit this place.

I really love this restaurant. It's cheaper than its DC counterpart and delicious food. It has a great bakery attached to it (the cakes made with Teff are quite tasty). It's a great restaurant with a low key vibe. You can even buy Injera from them. I will say this about the Injera, some folks will point out it doesn't... More
