I decided to try out Bittersweet Cafe for lunch on day on our DC trip. It is a deli that serves sandwiches, a lunch buffet, bakery items, and beverages. It is self-serve--you take a menu, order at the register, and then pick up your food at the food station. My chicken salad sandwich was typical--nothing to write home about (in... More

Most patrons are locals, so you know it must be good. Bittersweet has its own bakery in the back. Walk north from the corner and watch them make their luscious cakes, the best in Alexandria. During the summer, they rarely put any out for immediate sale; you have to special order, but they are worth it. The cafeteria-style dishes are... More

If you must eat here, keep it simple. Perhaps you can order a grilled cheese. We ordered two sandwiches: chicken pesto and a baked ham. Both were disappointing. Neither of us finished our sandwich. There are better options in Alexandria, find one.

The brunch is good, sandwiches are a bit on the skimpy side (where's the lettuce & tomato?), but the iced coffee (with french vanilla creamer) and cupcakes are worth the stroll. Delicious summer treat.

A favorite spot for fresh deli creations, bakery items and frozen yogurt! I love their Tuna Melt with fresh veggies and my girls love the frozen yogurt, that is the real thing! The small eating area can get crowded so you may have to plan to eat outside or in the plaza a few blocks down.

I felt like Bittersweet was along the lines of a Panera style restaurant. The food was good (not outstanding). The service was fine. I wasn't convinced the staff was well trained in what a gluten allergy is. We ate breakfast outdoors along King Street on a Sunday morning here which was very nice. Overall, we did not manage to find... More

Just had a cupcake and drink, but they were tasty. Their menu looked like it had a lot of yummy things to try.

Freshly brewed coffee and Holiday brunch with a great atmosphere! Friendly staff prepare and serve a variety of meals. Enjoyed a traditional breakfast there. Street cafe' style seating also available for warmer days. Walking distance from the Metro and Water Taxi. Old Town a must see!

I stop in here for a light breakfast from time to time or a healthy lunch from their hot/cold bar. Food to order always looks great. If you have a sweet tooth, you're in luck!! Great for families, friends, or just yourself!

We ate here last year while visiting and had breakfast here 3 times on this trip. A great menu, something for everyone and so reasonably priced. My husband had the quiche of the day all 3 times it was so good. The hot buffet is delicious. I wish we had this back here in Florida.
