I had breakfast at Bittersweet on Sunday with my husband and another couple. We went here because my friend has already been here and enjoyed their food and their coffee. The place has the feel of a quick service cafe. You order at the front, and either pick up your food to go, or they bring it to you if... More

I don't get some of the comments here, the breakfast we had was pretty good here. The atmosphere is quite nice as the building is historic and decorated nicely. The coffee was surprisingly good and nice and bold. The food was good, though the potatoes were a bit bland. The southwest scramble was otherwise excellent with nice flavors and spice... More

For good sandwiches and lunch-time far, the Bittersweet Café has everything you need. It doesn't excel for others of its genre, but it is reliable.

I called in for breakfast at this cafe. The coffee was great and the food and cakes were great as well. But the service was cold and unfriendly which spoiled the experience

What was I expecting at the most touristic street in Alexandria? A self-service place with salads and sandwiches? We had the famous tuna sandwich, and the chicken and pesto Panini. Both were barely edible..... What a great disappointment!

Food was good - the ice tea was excellent but but the size of the big George sandwich wasn't very big and it didn't really fill me up-wasn't a very good value. The bread was also clearly just something bought from the store.

I had a Migas, which was eggs, sausage, and salsa. it was very good. The place has a fun atmosphere and was busy. The prices are good.

I stumbled across this cafe when I moved to Alexandria, VA two years ago and this is my #1 place to go for cakes and breakfast! The bakery does an excellent job and has never let me down. I am frequent orderer of the GIANT Cupcake for when birthdays come. The GIANT cupcake is always a huge hit!

We were staying at a near-by hotel with lots of family. We were in town for a funeral. The Bittersweet Cafe became a go to spot for breakfast with muffins, croissants, breakfast wraps, oatmeal etc. and yummy sandwiches and wraps for lunch. Delicious food and quick.

Their coffee is really quite awful. No doubt about it. The latte is watery and the mochaccino is missing the espresso. The food wasn't bad. I think someone else mentioned to "keep it simple," and that's what we did. The staff seemed unhappy, which made for some difficulty ordering, since we had never been there before. The nice thing is... More

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience -- we value the opinions of our customers and apologize we did not meet your expectations. Our coffee is provided by M.E. Swing, a local roaster since 1916 and we've been using them for about 20 years. It is not a very strong roast like you find at... More
