Stopped in for breakfast. OJ fresh squeezed. Coffee hot. Breakfast and pastries were fresh and really good. Don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu. Servers have worked there forever and are happy to help, just ask!

In short, there are too many better options within a stone's throw, so keep walking and save yourself from mediocre food, pushy service and ill-equipped facilities. However, if you decide to stop in anyway because you just can't resist the allure of the name, do not order the samosas or the falafel on light fares menu.

We've gone here for brunch a few times. It's usually good -- decent food, decent service -- but we've sometimes been less than pleased. I'd definitely pick up pastries to go, but have been trying other brunch places.

I admit that I sought out Bread & Chocolate for its free Wi-Fi. I was very pleased to find out they served light lunches. I sat at the bar and ordered their Classic French Onion soup and the California Croissant sandwich. It wound up being a bit too much food. The French Onion soup was quite good. It had a... More

We stopped here, well, because of the name. We were very happy. Just wish I had room to eat more. Service was fast and friendly.

We lived in Alexandria years ago and happily found Bread and Chocolate is still in Old Town. It is on King Street just a block from Washington. We had a glass of wine during happy hour on Friday night. We were surprised they have a Happy Hour. It is a low key relaxing setting. On Saturday we had brunch. They... More

My wife and I were looking for a place to grab dessert after having dinner elsewhere in Old Town and we just stumbled on to Bread and Chocolate while walking along King Street. Bread and Chocolate, two of my favorite food groups, so it had to be good, right? Well, yes it was. The dessert display case was full of... More

We have stopped and had brunch here twice, they have a nice brunch deal for a basket of bread/pastries with butter and jam, an brunch entree, coffee and orange juice. Normally one of us orders the deal and the other orders their own entree and we share. They have two outdoor tables on the street if the weather is nice.... More

Stopped in with a friend for lunch. Excellent location on King Street between St. Asaph and Columbus. Not at all crowded at 1pm, got cutest table in the window; excellent people-watching. Specials on sidewalk menu board looked good. Nice menu inside with the kind of lighter lunch options I was seeking. Immediately greeted by waitress. She brought regular menus and... More

We went to this restaurant for Easter brunch. We ordered the standard fare; mimosas, eggs benedict and french toast. The the best thing on the table was the bread in the basket. The potatoes latkes that came with our meal were cold and greasy. The eggs Benedict had no flavor - needed to add salt and pepper to make edible.... More
