Vermilion features Chef William Morris' menu of Contemporary American cuisine. Complimenting Chef Morris' menu is Vermilion's wine list, named one of the top wine lists in the country by Restaurant Hospitality Magazine. Combining a charming location in Old town Alexandria with stylized design and atmosphere, Vermilion represents a bit of downtown sophistication: from the exposed brick in the upstairs dining room to the overstuffed pillows in the lounge downstairs, Vermilion holds something for all tastes.

In a town filled with bars, burger joints and tourist-oriented restaurants, Vermilion is pretty good. But on a larger canvas of what's considered outstanding, Vermilion ranks just ordinary at best. Aside from nearly breaking a tooth on walnut shell left in my salad, dinner dishes were heavy and over-seasoned. All around disappointing and very pricey. Extremely noisy.

Based upon the many positive reviews, my wife and I were excited to try Vermilion for the first time and we were not disappointed. We had a wonderful evening. The food, servie and atmosphere were excellent. We both decided to do the tasting menu with the wine pairing and we were very happy with our choice. Immediately upon being seated,... More

In a pleasant space, our service was the right blend of relaxed, knowledgeable and thoughtful. Indecisive about a white wine, our server brought over 3 different options to taste. The food was memorable and unique, leaving us without a doubt that one chef had overseen the development of each dish. His/her touch was evident in the preparation - generally, a... More

The clients were coming in from California and love the old buildings here. Two were vegetarians and they all loved wine so we set up the Tasting Menus for the whole crew. Naturally, we didn't all want exactly what was on offer so the chef and wait staff really tried hard to accommodate us. The clients LOVED it! The wine... More

My wife and I visited the Vermillion again this year for our anniversary. Once again the entire evening was top notch. From the excellently mixed martinis at the bar, to the complimentary glasses of champagne from our gracious waiter, to the fresh inventive food, we left totally satisfied with the whole experience.

Vermilion in fashionable King Street, Alexandria, Virginia, is just far enough away from Washington's central district to feel like you're in a very different neck of the woods. The food is described as "simple American" (simple as in, "very upscale" ... if that is "simple"). The executive chef is Anthony Chittum and apart from some excrutiatingly hard-crusted bread (fresh, but... More

We loved the roasted mushroom ravioli, with intense flavors of trumpeter mushrooms and sage. Save room for dessert: the sublime concoction of crème fraîche panna cotta, lemon poppy seed shortbread & blood orange sorbet is to die for; it sounded a little bland, but was the most refreshing and scrumptious blend of flavors.

I happened in here for a Sunday brunch and was so pleased. It is right in Old Town and very comfortable inside. I had a chevre, mushroom omelet with a side of crispy potatoes. It was absolutely delicious. The service was very quick and very nice. I didn't want toast or meat with my dish and the waiter offered fruit... More
