Description: Vermilion features Chef William Morris' menu of Contemporary American cuisine. Complimenting Chef Morris' menu is Vermilion's wine list, named one of the top wine lists in the country by Restaurant Hospitality Magazine. Combining a charming location in Old town Alexandria with stylized design and atmosphere, Vermilion represents a bit of downtown sophistication: from the exposed brick in the upstairs dining room to the overstuffed pillows in the lounge downstairs, Vermilion holds something for all tastes.

Our party of 6 had dinner at Vermilion last night, and we had a wonderful time. If I had to be critical, I'd say that the service was a little slow, but otherwise this place was great. We were seated upstairs, and the ambiance was very inviting. For appetizers, we had squid, gnocchi, steak tartare, and salads. They were all... More

I'm torn between 2 and 2.5 stars for this below-average restaurant that has fooled so many critics and clients alike with ... what exactly? I have no idea. All the food we had in our two tries there were truly flavorless with ultra-heavy doses of salt unsuccessfully attempting to mask the blandness of it all. Item descriptions on the menu... More

Always a fantastic dining experience. I eat here several times a year, always choosing the seasonally updated tasting menu with a wine pairing and have never been disappointed. Perfect for a romantic evening or special occasion. They have a lively bar scene with an upscale crowd.

The food were ordered was very good - sweet gems appetizer and lamb entree for one diner, and mussel soup followed by pork loin for second diner. We shared a nice bottle of Shiraz/Washington State recommended by our server who was attentive, informative and friendly. Other servers were equally attentive, and all tables seemed to be served efficiently so overall... More

We were visiting family in Alexandria and chose Vermillion for our anniversary dinner. It turned out to be a good choice and we had a delicious dinner and a great dining experience. The Lamb Gnocchi appetizer was fantastic. The Gnocchi was soft but had a nice sear on the outside and was served over a Lamb Bolognese. My wife had... More

Would definitely return for special occasions. A bit pricy for weekly visits. try three small plates to create a more varied meal for same price as entree. each dish thoughtful and creative. Little gems salad excellent.

We visited Vermillion on a recent rip to Alexandria and even although it was a arainy Wednesday Night , the place was packed . The food was excellent , it's a small menu but dont let that deter you. The service was outstanding and although, as mentioned , the restaurant was busy , it was prompt, efficient and very timely.... More

Because my husband is not always a planner, he asked me Sunday morning where I wanted to go to my birthday brunch/lunch that day. I had been to Vermillion before but I had read that they had recently rennovated, so I thought we should go. We decided to sit at the bar. We always enjoy it as we love having... More

My meal started with an amuse bouche of cream of broccoli soup that was outstanding. The food and atmosphere are sophisticated without pretense. It's a great date restaurant.
