Vermilion features Chef William Morris' menu of Contemporary American cuisine. Complimenting Chef Morris' menu is Vermilion's wine list, named one of the top wine lists in the country by Restaurant Hospitality Magazine. Combining a charming location in Old town Alexandria with stylized design and atmosphere, Vermilion represents a bit of downtown sophistication: from the exposed brick in the upstairs dining room to the overstuffed pillows in the lounge downstairs, Vermilion holds something for all tastes.

Has to be one of the BEST in Alexandria

My wife and I ate a nice unhurried dinner here this past week. We ate upstairs which is nicer, more formal and looks more like a fine dining place than downstairs seating. The menu was interesting although since we were eating late I wanted something other than beef ( or pork). Fish was my choice... read more

Late one afternoon in mid-march, as winter stubbornly continued to dictate the weather patterns in North America, I had a sudden and unforeseen yearning for apple pie. This was highly unusual as I was in the midst of a highly successful low-carb diet and had steadfastly committed to my austere regimen. Also, I have always had some fondness for that... More

The service is impeccable. Very rarely do you ever get a server who says " Please let me give you black napkins since you're both in black pants so that you don't get white lint on your clothes." The food was delicious. We each had the salmon entree. No dessert. I had some sort of funky named cocktail that was... More

The food a Vermilion was outstanding. I was bummed that they were out of the potato/leek soup, but the waiter suggested the bacon/corn chowder. He had me at bacon. It was one of the best soups I have ever had. I ordered the sampler (not sure if that is what it was called). It started with a nice pea salad,... More

After shopping all day in King St, we were looking for a place to grab a bite - instead we enjoyed a really nice dinner - beet salad, potato gnocchi, wild mushroom risotto, and salmon dish. You'll enjoy the atmosphere in the dining room or at the bar, the wait staff is very friendly/accommodating, and the farm to table food... More

This is the best culinary experience thus far in our trip to Annapolis-Alexandria area. The food is artistically plated, made with the finest ingredients, and cooked to perfection. We loved the beef tartare, the gnocchi, and the octopus for appetizer. Often times restaurants have good starters but their main courses leave you disappointed. Not Vermilion. The tagliatelle with a fine... More

If you happen to be on King St in Old town, dont miss this place for happy hour. They have a great bar menu, and seating. The bar is not the biggest, and it does get packed but it is a lot of fun.

This is not your typical dining locale. With our group of four, we had the opportunity to select from a wonderfully diverse menu and were delighted to enjoy fish, beef and lamb entrées. With starters of octopus and scallops, we dined at a leisurely, un-rushed pace, yet our waiter was there exactly when we were ready to order our main... More

I never even bother to check this place until a friend of mine suggested. What a hidden gem. The place is fantastic and huge, you don't even realize from the outside. I went for brunch and unfortunately I wasn't impressed with the quality of food. But I will definitely try their dinner menu and I think I will be more... More

For many years, Vermilion was our favorite restaurant in Old Town Alexandria. The food was created with an eye to seasonal, fresh ingredients, and the chef seemed to pay individual attention to each dish. The chef that used to be Executive at Vermilion has left since we were there last, and we returned this year to try the food under... More
