Vermilion features Chef William Morris' menu of Contemporary American cuisine. Complimenting Chef Morris' menu is Vermilion's wine list, named one of the top wine lists in the country by Restaurant Hospitality Magazine. Combining a charming location in Old town Alexandria with stylized design and atmosphere, Vermilion represents a bit of downtown sophistication: from the exposed brick in the upstairs dining room to the overstuffed pillows in the lounge downstairs, Vermilion holds something for all tastes.

My husband and I dined here on August 15th while staying in Alexandria for work. We informed them that I have food allergies which they were more than happy to accommodate. We started with the Roasted beet and fennel salad which was delicious (the vegetable ash spread on the bottom was unique and really enhanced the flavor) as well as... More

Went on a business dinner and found the menu varied for everyone's liking. The mushroom risotto was very nice with I hint of tarragon. A bit pricey but you we had nice selections of food. Some guest really enjoyed their tomato and peach salad.

First of all, it was nice to be in Old Town again, but on the Western side of Route One. It's just as elegant, fashionable and filled with as many interesting shops as the River side, but you can actually find a parking space! The first plus of the evening. We took a group of a half dozen business people... More

Vermilion is one of my 'go to' favorite places for lunch and dinner in Old Town. The location on upper King Street allows for much easier parking than down by the water with the option of a stroll to the Potomac after dinner. The menu changes frequently and the offerings are always highlighted by fresh, local ingredients. They have a... More

The food is soooo good and it's a relaxed feeling place, lacking some of the pretension that many high end restaurants have. I ordered the taster menu and wanted more of every course; from a pea/sprout/other tasty items salad to perfectly seared scallops to a filet with Bearnaise butter and fava bean puree to delicious ricotta fritters, the entire meal... My wife and I ate a nice unhurried dinner here this past week. We ate upstairs which is nicer, more formal and looks more like a fine dining place than downstairs seating. The menu was interesting although since we were eating late I wanted something other than beef ( or pork). Fish was my choice but like many restaurants I... More

Late one afternoon in mid-march, as winter stubbornly continued to dictate the weather patterns in North America, I had a sudden and unforeseen yearning for apple pie. This was highly unusual as I was in the midst of a highly successful low-carb diet and had steadfastly committed to my austere regimen. Also, I have always had some fondness for that... More

The service is impeccable. Very rarely do you ever get a server who says " Please let me give you black napkins since you're both in black pants so that you don't get white lint on your clothes." The food was delicious. We each had the salmon entree. No dessert. I had some sort of funky named cocktail that was... More

The food a Vermilion was outstanding. I was bummed that they were out of the potato/leek soup, but the waiter suggested the bacon/corn chowder. He had me at bacon. It was one of the best soups I have ever had. I ordered the sampler (not sure if that is what it was called). It started with a nice pea salad,... More
