We chose the tasting menu with wine pairings and were overjoyed with our choice. The meal was quite spectacular. It is easy to see why the Washingtonian magazine lists Vermilion as one the top 100 very best restaurants in the DC metropolitan area. I am local to the area and it is easily in my personal top 5. My favorite... More

Vermillion serves the tastiest and cheapest weekday lunch in OT. Really tasty soup and salad and 1/2 Oyster Po'boy sandwich. Its the best $13 you'll ever spend.

This was a planning meeting with one of my new reports. It was quiet and we were seating by the window. We both had the mixed green salad which was good but a bit over salted. I had the mussels and they were very good, no grit, flavorful broth with delicious chorizo. My associate had the salmon and while I... More

First, get there early enough for happy hour drinks. The malbec they had for $5 a glass for happy hour was wonderful. We shared the artichoke dip with bacon, which was good. I had the duck which was also very good. But what was absolutely spectacular was the nutella cheesecake. Mmmm, I so want some more of that!

After a Sunday morning walk in the gorgeous city of Alexandria, me and my wife popped in to this charming place. We were lucky and could get two of the four places that were not alreade booked for brunch. The coffee was excellent and the food was both good and came in hearty portions. The bread was delicious as was... More

This is my go to place for wonderful food. I've been many times for both lunch and dinner. The fare is simpler at lunch and the price reflects it. It's a fun place to meet friends and reservations are not needed. At night the food is more elegant, and I go for special occasions. The Obamas came here for Valentines... More

I have now been to Vermilion twice. The first time, I went with my mother to celebrate her 93rd birthday. When we arrived, we were greeted with complimentary champagne for the occasion. Virtually every dish we had from the farm-to-table menu was superb, from the garlic soup with hen's egg and gnocchi we had for appetizers to our main courses... More

We made a few mistakes on this visit. Mistake #1 - showing up without a reservation during DC and Alexandria restaurant week. Still, we were seated almost immediately, greeted promptly, and placed our order in a very timely manner. Mistakes #2 & 3 - ordering 1 appetizer and 1 entree to share; and not asking for them to be brought... More

This is one of the best restaurants in Alexandria. Definitely know going into it that it will be expensive, however you pay for the food you get! The service is great and the presentation is beautiful. I don't go often enough to know how often the menu cycles through, but when I went for dinner, I had the garlic soup... More
