Good food and service at relaxed, low key Saturday brunch

I had not been to Evening Star for several years but was in the mood for something different than our usual. Although we were close to the brunch time ending, we were seated and attended to with excellent service and did not feel rushed in any way. I had the quiche with mixed greens and a blood... read more

There are some unusual choices offered here. Portions are not large, but are satisfactory. We were all pleased with our orders, and service was very good.

We arrived for Brunch, and I learned that I could go next store to the wine shop and pick a wine with a corkage fee of $10, and I did. My guest is vegan, and nothing on the brunch menu was vegan so the waiter came back from the kitchen and offered a dish that was vegan. It was very... More

The Evening Star of course offers more then Brunch but the Brunch menu is amazing. The friend chicken and waffles are incredible and are a must try. On top of that their sticky bun is amazing. Seriously it is worth to just go in for a coffee and sticky bun and you won't be disappointed. We have also eaten their... More

I've been here twice, but wouldn't be back. Both times I've been underwhelmed by the service. 1st time we stopped by on a Sunday for a Bloody Mary which would maybe give V8 a run for its money. Second time stopped in for a quick beer and watched as a bar tender took my change off the bar into his... More

We had been so excited to have brunch here after perusing the menu and hearing it was great, and we very disappointed. My husband loves chicken and waffles and rarely leaves anything on his plate, but he did here. The chicken was dry and overdone. I had the duck hash and while it was a smallish portion, I did not... This is a hidden gem in Alexandria's Del Ray neighborhood that offers locally procured food and a contemporary atmosphere. There are three sections: the main dining room, a two story bar in the back called majestic cafe, and an outdoor patio. There is a fantastic beer and wine selection with lots of craft variety, and most impressively the beer is... More

My daughter and I dined here last night and were able to enjoy offerings from the Restaurant Week menu: panzanella and pig croquettes to start. Peas and carrots risotto and bistro steak for main courses. Refreshing glasses of blended cabernet and chardonay to accompany our meals. The only surprise was the "peaches and cream" dessert, which claimed to be "BOURBON... More

Evening Star Cafe was great for date night with my wife - cool vibe, nice selection and beverages and excellent food. Helps to make reservations ahead of time or even to go late when the place seems to relax a bit from being uber-hip. From a vegetarian perspective the range of options wasn't as wide as we might have liked... More
