If you like southern cooking, then this is the place for you. However, the menu is somewhat limited, and I had a hard time finding something that I wanted to eat. If you are vegetarian or vegan, I would not recommend eating here, as there was only one dinner menu item that seemed vegetarian. I ended up ordering an appetizer... More

This is a comfy casual looking neighborhood restaurant with a very promising looking menu. The problem was service was awful (and it was a weeknight and not all that crowded) and the food was mediocre. Alas. Service first. My fault but I ordered a glass of wine I didn't love and wanted to try a different wine. I tried in... More

We use to live in the neighborhood and must have eaten there 30 times over a two year period. We moved away and were so looking forward to eating there again on a return trip to visit old friends and see the city with our children. it's only been two years but everything was different. We asked the waitress who... More

Evening Star Cafe in Delray area is a funky little place with dining area as well as 2 bars. Overall, the place is very small and quite loud. The acoustics are not very good and conversation can be difficult, but the cold beer, good food and excellent service make the effort worth it. The lounge has a nice menu of... More

My dining partner and I went to Evening Star for a delicious dinner. As an appetizer, I had the fried green tomatoes, and she had the Caesar salad. Both appetizers were delicious. For the entree, I had the duck, and she had the pork chop. The plates were well composed, the food was scrumptious, the light smoke flavor of the... More

We have been there on a number of occasions, and love the atmosphere. Feels like a small town rather than the hustle and bustle of the big city. The halibut is tasty, they have a nice wine selection, and the appetizers are all great. Definitely a must if in Alexandria.

enjoyed interesting well-cooked food here early one Saturday evening although we were a bit mystified you had to go through the Majestic Bar doorway to get to the restaurant. Strange unique artworks made of erector sets, lights bulbs and other bits and pieces deck the walls etc.

We stumbled on this restaurant, not knowing its reputation, but the decor (clever and unusual with lots of erecter set materials) and the food captivated us. I had my first fried chicken and waffles. Wow! (Could have used a tad more syrup, but the spicy butter was inspired). The bloody mary had too much black pepper, but the mini grilled... More

We were in town for a conference and had dinner Sunday evening at the Evening Star Cafe. Great neighborhood place with nice ambiance. Wine list is extensive and has plenty of local choices. The food was delicious and the service was terrific. The scallop appetizer was cooked perfectly - a great sear on the outside. The duck entree and rib... More

Never having been disappointed, I made arrangements for visiting relatives to spend a special birthday here. That, and our own special celebration of joining the neighborhood tonight by buying a home, did NOT disappoint! Thank you, Chris!! Thank you, Evening Star!! ;)
