After a recent visit with several other "foodies" that enjoy French food, I am sad to report that La Bergerie is only a pale shadow of what they were several years ago. While the food was mediocre, service lackadaisical, decor cheesy and aged, and the experience disheartening, the cost of an evening at La Bergerie continues to go up. There... More

I have enough this restaurant probably a dozen times. Each time, they have delivered. Now, do I like trying new dish sometimes? Yep! Will each always be to my personal taste? No, but that's why I like trying new things. Their lobster bisque, steaks, Caesar salad, vegetables are delicious. The bread is authentic with a crunchy exterior. Creme Brûlée is... More

Reservation made prior. The restaurant had plenty of available seating so we could not fathom why the hostess seated us at a table - one side a chair and the other side was in-between the middle of 2 booths- so you were sitting in an uncomfortable crack. We asked to be moved. Terrine of Foie Gras - while the preparation... More

Overall a wonderful experience, we had the 3 course tasting menu and all of our selections were very good to excellent. The service was unobtrusive and efficient, plates served quickly without being rushed. We will definitely be back for special occasions, but due to the cost, not on frequently.

Over our 5 day stay in Alexandria we dined at La Bergerie twice for dinner and both times we were blown away by the food that was prepared for us. Our second trip they made a custom entree and custom desert for our entire table! Our first visit was on Sunday 9/7/14 with a group of 6 people. As soon... More

We were lucky enough to enjoy a memorable group dinner at this charming French restaurant in the heart of historic Old Town Alexandria. Their reputation for culinary excellence shone through every dish including escargots, homemade lentil soupe du jour, sautéed crab cake, pork tenderloin with caramelized apple, grilled salmon, and black angus tenderloin. Both the Creme Brûlée and the Grand... More

I took my mother and sister, who were visiting Washington to La Bergerie last evening and we had a wonderful meal and a relaxed evening. I have been living overseas and had not visited the restaurant in a few years but it fully lived up to my memory of fine food and fine service. I read some reviews saying that... More

Our third dining experience at La Bergerie. AWESOME. The service is superb, the wine list is wonderful, the food....can't say enough about it. Lots of opportunity for table-side preparation. Best crab cakes ever. And definitely order a soufflé for dessert at the start of your meal; it is pure heaven!!

Excellent Restaurant Week menu. The duck confit was delicious and the raspberry souffle was mouth-watering. The service is excellent even when the restaurant got busy. The atmosphere is relatively quiet even when crowded -- I could not hear conversation at all from nearby tables.

This expression, used by my grandmother, came to mind as we were not very gently rushed through dinner. And after paying about $150 for dinner for two, with a bottle of wine and a significant main course up charge, we left knowing we would never return. We had an early reservation on Saturday of restaurant week, and learned from our... More
