The tavern takes one back to 18th century both in atmosphere and food choices. Have eaten there several times and always take out of town guests for either lunch or dinner. Well worth a visit. Suggest reservations.

It has atmosphere and good food. The peanut soup is terrific. If you have out of town guests and want to show them Old Town Alexandria, this is the place to eat. There is a tour too.

I decided to go hear on my parents recomendation, and since I was in Newport, Rhode Island last evening at the White Horse Tavern, another one of Americas oldest, I decided to compare the two. While I like them both and White Horse is in my home town, Gadsby's moved to the head of the list. Reasonable, great setting, great... More

I entered that we went in January 2011, but actually it was several years ago. The historic setting and costumed wait staff were better than the food, but we still enjoyed our experience there.

Thought we were in Raleigh Tavern in Colonial Williamsburg during the Christmas season. Tavern interior was tastefully decorated in various greenery and fruit with lighted candels providing accent. The service was a little slow to our taste; however, the meal was tasteful, but could have been warmer. The visit was worth it, as you feel you have been transported back... More

While visiting other people in the Washington DC area, I was looking for a place to have Thanksgiving dinner, and chose Gadsby's Tavern after reading several reviews of it and competing establishments on tripadviser. Gadsby's Tavern is an 'experience,' a historic site, especially, we thought, appropriate for Thanksgiving dinner with five adults and two children, 9 and 14. It consists... More

The food was absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere took you back in time. The prime rib was unbelievable, the crusted brie pastry appetizer was so yummy. This was the place that our founding fathers had many political discussions & you can stand in front of the fireplace that they used. Great experience.

Ate at Gadsby's in October, great prime rib. Ten people with me and every one had something different and all was very good. The host and waitress were very personable. Enjoyed talking to them. Waitress did not add the customary 15 or 20 % with at table of 10. Said eh was a Vegas girl and would take her chances... More
