The place is old and charming...sort of fun eating where George Washington had afew meals but my dinner "DUCK" was below par. To be fair there were 5 other friends with me and 3 rated their meals good.

It was thrilling to whet our whistles at the same tavern that Jefferson and Washington used...

The restaurant was apparently short staffed when we visited. The waitress was rushed and not very pleasant. Besides that, the food was great. It's neat to think of all the history that has taken place in this old restaurant. Prices on par with other restaurants of this caliber in Alexandria. Exterior of building being worked on so there is scaffolding... More

Gadsby's is open again after being closed for a while to repair damage from the recent earthquake. Fortunately, the damage was minor. This old place is truly a landmark, dating from 1785, and usually has a sign outside saying "George Ate Here." Whether he actually did or not, I certainly enjoy eating there! The restaurant is furnished with authentic-looking simple... More

To eat here without being in a large party, took some time to book. The GM, Paul was very helpful in helping me navigate our trip, since we would only be party of three. I feel bad for people that don't know to do this, because, if you just randomly show up, you probaly won't get a table. We came... More

It was very unfortunate that the manager didn't keep enough employees on to handle the Party of forty in the back room on the evening we dined there. Those employees who were serving customers that evening were hustling to get everyone served. It turned into a 2 hour dining experience. But the food came out hot and was excellent, never... More

This was our third to visit to Gadsby's in the last twenty years. Each time, it has been an interesting visit to eat in the same place that George Washington, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson hung out. I had the "Washington's Favorite" and highly recommend it. Sally Lunn bread is served with the meal and the peanut soup is really... More

Gadsby's Tavern was a wonderful experience for my boyfriend and me. We went on a Thursday evening hoping for a more formal dining atmosphere and delicious food. Gadsby's Tavern is about a block from the ever so lively King street. It is close enough so that walking down King street and dining at Gadsby's Tavern is not a hassle. Gadsby's... More
