Good sandwiches and beer. They closed early for a private party.

Old Town Alexandria is not to be missed - George Washington would come to political meetings here and would stay and dine at Gadsby's Tavern. We enjoy the ambiance - not far away is the tiny house George Washington purchased for housing when he attended extended political meetings and could not commute between Mt. Vernon and Old Town Alexandria.

It's all about colonial charm at Gadsby's, which makes it a fun spot to take out of town visitors. Those of us who live here eventually grow weary of ye olde colonial approach, but Gadsby's does have the advantage of being an authentic colonial eatery. Food is good, servers wear colonial costumes -- on certain winter nights you can imagine... More

We found the food OK, but the service and atmosphere were worth it. Would recommend for a date night or a special meal for visiting relatives who have an interest in British Colonial period of US history.

I took my family (four adults) to Gadsby's Tavern for a 5:30 pm dinner on Thursday night, December 29, 2011. I wanted to treat my daughter and her fiance to a fun dinner in a historical setting since he is a bit of a history buff. My wife and I had dined at Gadsby's back in the 1990s and it... More

The tavern takes one back to 18th century both in atmosphere and food choices. Have eaten there several times and always take out of town guests for either lunch or dinner. Well worth a visit. Suggest reservations.

It has atmosphere and good food. The peanut soup is terrific. If you have out of town guests and want to show them Old Town Alexandria, this is the place to eat. There is a tour too.

I decided to go hear on my parents recomendation, and since I was in Newport, Rhode Island last evening at the White Horse Tavern, another one of Americas oldest, I decided to compare the two. While I like them both and White Horse is in my home town, Gadsby's moved to the head of the list. Reasonable, great setting, great... More

I entered that we went in January 2011, but actually it was several years ago. The historic setting and costumed wait staff were better than the food, but we still enjoyed our experience there.
