Historic and delicious

Went for thanksgiving dinner and everything was delicious. Wait staff are in period attire and the building is full of history. How often can you dine where George Washington dined?!

I had lunch at Gadsby's upon my retirement. We had a separate room which was nicely decorated for the times. Food was decent and service good. We even opted to spend the extra $5 for the tour, which was a bit underwhelming in content, but overwhelming for older adults as there were a lot of stairs. Overall good experience.

The prices are a little high, but the food is excellent. Right in the middle of Old Town. Walking distance to the Old Torpedo Factory, Geo. Washington Townhouse and other sites in Alexandria.

The point of going to Gadsbys is for the historical atmosphere. The place has been around since the 1700s (though not necessarily as Gadsbys or as a restaurant) and the sign outside says "George Washington Ate Here" and they wouldn't be kidding! The servers dress in period garb and the decor is true to the period. Unfortunately, due to a... More

We visited during restaurant week. This is the place where George Washington and other historical figures used to eat and drink. Our waitress was mediocre. The place wasn't crowded and she wasn't very fast. She gave a brief history on the tavern and told us about a ghost that supposedly haunts this place. I ordered the prime rib. It was... More

We had dinner here in January. The service was excellent, as was the food. While I am sure the food was not 18th century, the decor and the costuming made it feel as if we were back in that time period. A gentleman entertained us with colonial era chatter, which was pretty enjoyable too.

My mom and I went here because Washington ate here and we see why! Onion soup was so so good! But it was more than just the food, Gloria was so personable and so friendly from beginning to end. Im a server my self and I was so impressed with her! Thank you again for the lovely meal Gloria!

We have been here before and it was a very special experience. The staff was dressed up and sang! This night no entertainment, no singing. The food was real good, nice pretty old tavern but certainly not an experience. Perhaps it has changed as the website didn't show any kind of singing, etc. Just nothing special.

A good place for dinner with out-of-town guests or family. The 18th-century ambience is nicely developed with its simple décor, tightly packed tables and small bar. It brings to mind the days of George Washington who frequented Gadsby's with his officers and close advisors to map out strategy while in Alexandria. The menu is diverse with good selections for appetizers,... More
