For families, by a family. The French are masters of good food and like for children to become acquainted with it early. Today they were very kind to my grandchildren who were trying some items for the first time, serving the sauces on the side to sample.

I cannot add anymore superlatives to what has already been said. Le Refuge is simply, the best French country cuisine inside the Beltway.

Le Refuge was recommended by our financial advisor and friend. We have a city house in Old Town and had never been there. I had the escargot, caesar salad and Wellington. My husband had the French onion soup and the pork with Roquefort. All were fabulous. The Wellington was so perfect that I took the leftovers home and it the... More

Every visit to Le Refuge has been a treat - the flavors burst on the senses and the ambiance is so quaint. My husband loves French food so we've tried a few around Alexandria and DC, but for us this by far the most authentic. The escargo is a must, and the quail.

We try and eat here every time we come to Alexandria. This visit did not disappoint; started with the Endive salad, which we split, and then we had the Quails, and the Rockfish with crab. Wow! For dessert, we had the pear and chocolate with ice cream. Service was fast and friendly. You need a reservation here, being small and... More

We moved to Alexandria a few months ago and finally made it in to Le Refuge this weekend hoping that we had found our new, favorite local French restaurant. It had a lot of potential but fell short. I ordered the beef wellington, which from the looks of other tables, was a popular entree, and the most expensive on the... More

Le Refuge is a small French restaurant near the intersection of Washington and King Streets in Old Town Alexandria, VA. Whenever we are in the area we try to have dinner there. Le Refuge has a wide menu of authentic French dishes. The service has always been good, and the meals are delicious. Reservations are a good idea because it... More

You’ll know you’re at the right place when you smell the garlic wafting out into the street. When you pass through the entrance door you’ll experience a time and space warp like Track 9-3/4 where Harry and his friends caught the train to Hogwarts. This is a delightfully old-fashioned restaurant. It’s crowded and noisy and the food isn’t perfect, but... More

We lived in Alexandria for a while and return to DC area with some regularity. When we know we are going to be visiting the area, the first thing we do is make a reservation at La Refuge. It is a small place with great atmosphere, great food and good wait staff.
