GOODFOOD AND SERVICE--VERY EXPENSIVE WINES!

Recently we came here with another couple for dinner. The food was good, particularly the Entrecote steak. The service is attentive, but a little pushy. We like to have a nice bottle of wine with our dinners out. The wine list here is extremely expensive. A good bottle of wine starts at about $60... read more

I was a fan of Bastille in its previous incarnation and this was my first visit to their new location. The menu is perhaps a bit more modern than the old Bastille, but the cooking is just a wonderful. The soup of the day was a heavenly mushroom veloute. The sea bream was the best preparation of sea bream I've... More

We had the good fortune to have lunch at Bastille's new location on North Fayette Street this week. The new space is very open, airy and bright. The wait staff is professional, attentive and helpful. The food was marvelous and offered a different menu from the other, more French-oriented location. We sampled the fresh fish (Bream), the pasta with chicken,... More

Having loved Bastille on Royal for many years (and the café is still there), we were anxious to try the new restaurant for a special birthday dinner. The prix fixe menu was above average and the ambiance upscale minimalist, but the wine list was a big disappointment. They were out of the $32 Côte du Rhone and out of the... More

We had been to Bastille on Royal many times before it moved we loved it. Since moving to Fayette Street in Alexandria Bastille thinks it moved to New York City. We ordered eggs benedict; scrambled eggs, potatoes and biscuits; had three bloody marys and water - had a 10% off coupon and the bill was $108. Please!!!!! I had to... More

We waited entirely all too long (almost 50 mins) to get the ravioli and a burger from the kitchen. All the while sitting at the bar we could see at least 3 people in the kitchen most of the time standing around with their arms crossed. The bar tender hardly knew the drink menu and had to follow step-by-step directions... More

We had eaten at Bastille years ago in its original location on Royal Street. We were pleasantly surprised by its new, attractively decorated quarters on North Fayette Street, a few blocks north of King Street. Bastille offers a modern twist on classic French cooking. Our group sampled several of there appetizers and entrees: calamari a la plancha, rock shrimp beignets,... More

Bastille has moved to its new location and has a sister restaurant (under same ownership) at the old place called Bistrot Royal. We would go to Bastille every 4 months or so and it was our favorite! We took my parents to the new place and it was very disappointing! Before going, I called to find out which place has... More

The "old" Bastille was a quirky little restaurant. The "new" Bastille very modern. Decor aside, Bastille remains an excellent dining choice. Great choices on the menu ... the starters and appetizers are -- while not adventurous -- are novel, perfectly executed, and delicious. The main section includes a good mix of fish, poultry, and meats. But, for a perfectly portioned,... More

Wanted to try the new Bastille, since we had been to the previous location several times. We had dinner there on a Saturday evening. The food was very good, but it was hard to talk to the person across the table because of the noise level. Lunch may be better. I will wait for the patio to open before going... More
