Stop by Paulie's every few months for BBQ. Asked about why it was spicy a few visits back. They mentioned they had put some hot BBQ sauce in that time. They gave us some spicy sauce to add to our sandwiches and WOW! Ask for some spicy sauce if you like a little kick in your BBQ. Not much room... More

Don't be fooled by the "wayside" look to this little eatery...they know their BBQ. I am a BBQ snob and have eaten it all over the mid-atlantic as well as the south. Paulie's is as good as it gets. Do yourself a favor and stop in the next time you are driving on Rt. 151.

We stopped here after vodka tasting and cider tasting. Hungry, we all ordered a BBQ sandwich. They have two large bbq ovens outside and everything smells do good. There is no place to sit and eat inside but there are a couple of picnic tables outside and we got to enjoy a 1950's Bellair car in mint condition while sitting... More

Went here based on other reviews. Food was really good, but seems pricey considering it's actually just a carry-out place with nowhere to sit down. I'll go back when in the Afton area but wouldn't make a special trip.

We stopped here after a great reference from a staff member at Veritas Vineyard & Winery. Unfortunately, at about one in the afternoon, they were out of barbecue; so, we went for second choices and I found them to be lackluster - average mac and cheese, average slaw and greasy, though well cooked chicken. On the other hand, the portions... More

This small but delicious eatery is located right along the road on Route 151 south of Afton. They smoke the pork and chicken right there and you can smell it for blocks. The pulled pork sandwich is outstanding (it is great with cole slaw on top) and the chicken is very well seasoned and falls off the bone.

Paulie’s Pig Out is a great little place! My husband and I went there for the first time last week and I’m so glad we did. It’s mainly a take-out place, but there is one table on the inside and two picnic tables on the outside (although an umbrella or other means of shade would make them much more inviting).The... More

Loved Paulie's Pig Out! My husband had the pulled pork meal with baked beans and cole slaw. So good. My daughter had a half rack of ribs with dry rub. Delicious! I had the smoked chicken sandwich with homemade sides of potato salad and Mac and cheese. Awesome! Hope we get to go back again. Paulie greeted us as soon... More

Barbeque, like pizza, is ubiquitous, and what is "great" to one may easily be just OK to another. If you travel much -- like outside Nelson County, VA -- Paulie's is just NOt great. Sorry. Good, absolutely. The barbeque is sufficiently moist and the sauce tasty, though not especially distinctive. Fact is, their "signature sauce", if that is what it... More

If you are looking for elegant ambiance, extensive wine list, and soft music while you dine, then put the pedal to the metal and keep on down the road, 'cause you won't get it here. Although the view isn't bad if you sit outside (the only place there is to sit...) and enjoy the hills around the Rockfish Valley. And... More
