Each time I've been here I've been impressed. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is unique. The building is over 200 years old and holds so much history. They even took us on a tour of the attic where the original hospital bed numbers are still visible on the horse hair plastered walls. They are usually very busy so... More

The historic setting and the atmosphere at The Tavern are unbeatable. It is charming, romantic, and steeped in history. The food is expensive, but the quality is good. I had the duck in the port wine sauce and it was fabulous. My husband got the weiner schnitzel. Overall, the food was delicious, but not 5 star, especially for the price.... More

We came here for early dinner. The locals suggested calling for reservations, particularly because it was Friday. We came a bit early, but they were accommodating. We sat at an upstairs dining room. The floors were of the period: old and uneven. Service was prompt and very good. Food was excellent. We shared the stuffed filet, which was plenty for... More

We actually ate dinner here twice in four days. It was built in the 1700's and is very colonial. Food and service is outstanding. My husband got the same meal twice because he like it so much. The owner talked with us both times. Service good for large groups.

Great stuffed filet! Honestly the best I have had! Love the warm cozy atmosphere. A place to get premium food in a casual atmosphere. The service is always spot on and its always a treat to visit this place.

My family had a reservation for 30 guests for a Friday evening dinner. With such a large reservation there was limited number of items to choose from which still wasn't bad (prime rib, chicken, etc.). The only negative was that the meal only came with a salad, mashed potatoes and a small cesear salad with the house dressings. The atmosphere... More

Had heard great things about this establishment and was rather surprised by my experience.. 1) It had charm and grace found only in a building with over 200 years of history. 2) Staff was very pleasant. 3) Owner/manager (Max) stopped by several times to ensure all was well. Hi visits were more of a "glide by" which offered no ability... More

This was my first visit to The Tavern and I have to say it will definitely not the the last. The dinner went well surprisingly since we had around 40 people dining with us. You can tell that the staff are passionate about their job. I will recommend this to anyone looking to try something different in Southwest Virginia.

A wonderful historic inn built in 1779 and operated continuously since (not always as an inn). Really charming, personable owner on premises, great staff and fine food. Special of pork chop was done exactly right and my wife had a great jambalaya that I would not have thought possible in Virginia.

My wife and I were in Abingdon for cycling and one evening ran across the Tavern restaurant. The manager was a retired AF Chief Master Sergeant who was from Germany so we bonded immediately. They served wonderful food and three German dishes which my wife and I tried. I'd recommend it to anyone but the only word of caution was... More
