Great food, atmosphere, and staff! Worth the price. Crem Brule was decadent!,I really hope to go back there someday. I want to try some of the authentic German dishes.

They offered a gluten free menu and excellent drink choices. The staff was incredibly friendly. Our food was cooked perfectly. I liked the homemade salad dressing so much...they gave me the recipe.

The restaurant is a very interesting and really an authentic old tavern. It took 43 min to get a glass of wine and 47 min for salad/soup. Many customers who came after us were eating their main course by then. Our meals came after 65 min. We explained several times our frustration. At the 45 min complaint we were told... More

The Tavern is a delightful find in the cute little town of Abingdon, Virginia. The building was erected during the colonial period and eating here was like stepping back into the 18th century. So charming! Wood beams everywhere. We ate on the outdoor patio, and it was lovely. The service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive. The owner stopped by... More

I live in Dallas, but everytime I'm in the area this is my go to spot. The owner, Max, is from Germany and provides an excellent experience everytime. I know the menu is full of high quality dishes, but the past 10 times I have been I only order the "Ferracci". You wont find it on the menu, but it... More

We had a great meal at The Tavern. Food (Wienerschnitzel and Sea Bass entrees) was outstanding as was service. The location and structure are a perfect fit for historical Abingdon. The proprietor stopped by twice to check that everything was satisfactory. We ate upstairs but the outside dining in the back looked very good as well. Will definitely return.

Ambiance is wonderful and the food excellent. We sat at a special table where 'love' notes are written and kept for future diners.

we have often driven 4 hours round trip to dine here. the food is always outstanding and the service is great. don't sit on the back porch as it causes extreme alcohol consumption.

The Tavern is an experience in itself from the moss growing on the roof to the historical feel inside. The staff is excellent and very attentive. The owner usually visits each table to chat if you like. The food is very good but is a little more expensive than most in town. Quite and cozy. Good place for a romantic... More
