Great stuffed filet! Honestly the best I have had! Love the warm cozy atmosphere. A place to get premium food in a casual atmosphere. The service is always spot on and its always a treat to visit this place.

My family had a reservation for 30 guests for a Friday evening dinner. With such a large reservation there was limited number of items to choose from which still wasn't bad (prime rib, chicken, etc.). The only negative was that the meal only came with a salad, mashed potatoes and a small cesear salad with the house dressings. The atmosphere... More

Had heard great things about this establishment and was rather surprised by my experience.. 1) It had charm and grace found only in a building with over 200 years of history. 2) Staff was very pleasant. 3) Owner/manager (Max) stopped by several times to ensure all was well. Hi visits were more of a "glide by" which offered no ability... More

This was my first visit to The Tavern and I have to say it will definitely not the the last. The dinner went well surprisingly since we had around 40 people dining with us. You can tell that the staff are passionate about their job. I will recommend this to anyone looking to try something different in Southwest Virginia.

A wonderful historic inn built in 1779 and operated continuously since (not always as an inn). Really charming, personable owner on premises, great staff and fine food. Special of pork chop was done exactly right and my wife had a great jambalaya that I would not have thought possible in Virginia.

My wife and I were in Abingdon for cycling and one evening ran across the Tavern restaurant. The manager was a retired AF Chief Master Sergeant who was from Germany so we bonded immediately. They served wonderful food and three German dishes which my wife and I tried. I'd recommend it to anyone but the only word of caution was... More

The menu is diverse. The dishes are well-executed, and original. The service is outstanding and very professional. The atmosphere is just perfectly fitting for a historical town like Abingdon. I particularly like that the dining rooms are small, even though the restaurant is large. It feels cozy and comfortable. However, if you want to enjoy what I think to be... More

I enjoyed the escargot and duck and the pomegranate martini while my mom enjoyed the daily special of the catch and a pumpkin martini. The bill was $114 but absolutely a delicious meal and a wonderful treat. Most people were dressed in business casual but some were in jeans. The staff is very friendly and we were even able to... We have been to Abingdon numerous times but this was our first time at The Tavern. I expected one of the typical colonial tavern meals like you would find in Williamsburg or Old Salem but felt like I was in Germany! Great food, great service, and a wonderful atmosphere! Very welcoming and a real treat!

Only stopped for a beer this time but made dinner reservations for next week. Met Max, the owner, and talked Air Force for a few minutes (we're both retired AF.) The Warsteiner and Spaten drafts were excellent and the bartender friendly. Please remember that German beers can have a substantially higher alcohol content vs most American beers. The building is... More
