Can't wait to return

I visited The Tavern June 22 with an old friend. She had the shrimp scampi and I had the trout special. We both enjoyed our meal and topped it off with a chocolate-peanut butter "cup" for dessert that was absolutely to die for. Our entrees were well-prepared and of generous portions. Our salads... read more

Found the Tavern on a Sunday night, a night when it is usually closed. In fact, most of the really nice restaurants in Abingdon seem to be closed on Sunday, so you need to prepare if you're there on Sunday. The Tavern however, was open this Sunday because of a bike race. We did not have reservations, but there were... More

My scallops were too salty. My husband's rainbow trout was delicious. The service was very good and the restaurant was very attractive.

The letter table in this historic inn has a drawer where previous diners have written letters. So much fun to read as we dined. we found paper and a pen and included on from us. The restaurant was quite full but the service was impeccable. We enjoyed the local wines and the menu. Only negative was the fact that the... More

Cheapest dish on the menu is prime rib, at $28 for 12 ounces. It was good but nothing special. It had large chunks of fat. The salad was small and the lettuce was not fresh. The blue cheese dressing was spicy and very good. The server was excellent, friendly and competent. The building is historic and the mossy roof is... More

My wife and I really enjoyed the food. She had a great salmon dish and I had surf and turf (filet medallions and trout). Both dishes were prepared very well. THE building is one of the oldest in the area, and has a charm. However, the flat ware they gave us was so thin that it seemed to be like... More

We had been told that The Tavern was Abingdon's finest downtown restaurant. Well, maybe, at one time, but not when we were there. First, we were offered seating on the 'charming' upstairs balcony. The problem was that the end table for four was in a corner cut off from any breeze located above the noisy ac units below. So we... More

I had black and blue filet rare, and my wife had stuffed filet. Both were some of the best tasting and most tender filets we've ever eaten.

Very unique, old building. A waiter provided a complimentary tour, including the attic which served as a Civil War hospital!

Ahi Tuna was in desperate need of a sauce. Very Little flavor. We were able to split a meal by paying a $10 fee. For this fee we both received salads.
