Good but pricey

Excellent food and good service in an old quaint building in the centre of Abingdon. The prices are a little high for the area but otherwise we had a good experience.

Enjoyed a wonderful dining experience here with friends. One of them is a fellow history aficionado, which made it extra special. The place dates from 1779 and it retains the look and feel while not sacrificing convenience, comfort, or cleanliness. They have a good wine list and a reasonably varied menu. I had the Jumbalaya, which was spicy, as advertised,... More

3 of us dined at the Tavern for dinner. We were promptly seated in a cozy spot in the 150+ year old building. We chose escargot in puff pastry and smoked salmon for appetizers. Both were excellent! 2 of the 3 of us chose prime rib (one blackened) and I selected a black and blue filet mignon (covered with blue... More

A bit pricy but worth every penny. The brie appetizer was served in a bread roll with honey and nuts. French Onion soup was fantastic. Make sure you try the German dishes. The are excellent!

This restaurant has a reputation and a long history. They know that people will populate their tables nightly and they have no need to advertise or be concerned with bad reviews. They don't care what I have to say here. The food I have had here over the years has varied from amazing to okay. I have never had a... More

Stopped in Abingdon on our way to a college trip with our son and found this restaurant on Tripadvisor! I called on the way down from WV and were lucky enough to get reservations for that evening! It is truly charming and so full of character! The staff were absolutely wonderful and I think we had one of the best... More

My wife and I stopped in for a couple a drinks at the bar. This was my first time at the Tavern. It has a Irish Pub like fill to it that we enjoyed. But the atmosphere was just average. The drinks were good and strong but a little pricey.

The food is great, but the ambiance is even better. The manager host, Max, will take good care of you.

We ate dinner on Valentine's Day at The Tavern. The service was attentive and quick. I had the filet medallions (a safe choice, but good) and my husband had the stuff chicken (sauce was fabulous). In spite of the crowd, one of the hosts was able to take us and the other couple we were dining with to the third... More
