We were passing through on our way home from New Orleans and spent the night in Bristol. The desk clerk told us about the restaurant mentioning the German connection. Now that is not my favorite cuisine, but I checked the online menu and decided to give it a go. Glad we did, because it was fabulous. No one has mentioned... More

This was a wonderful experiance. The food was awesome, the staff was friendly and the portions generous. The building itself is very old and it is a must see.

We were in the area to bike the creeper trail and ended up dining at a lovely. Historic landmark. The dinner was exquisite, and the service flawless.

My husband and myself were so looking forward to dinner as we had heard so many wonderful things about this restaurant. When my prime rib was set in front of me I almost cried. It was a huge slab of meat which I could not even cut. Very very tough. No taste what so ever. My husband ordered the same... More

My husband and I immensely enjoyed our 23rd wedding anniversary dinner. Beautiful building and atmosphere. Visited The Barter Theatre, which was a nice walk from the restaurant. Nice evening.

This was our 2nd trip within a week...a testament to how consistently this establishment is. We visited five years ago for a previous special occasion and couldn't wait to return. Tonight's meal was superb! We started with the Fresh mozzarella appetizer. Wonderful presentation with slices of procuitto and tomatoes drizzled with an elegant balsamic vinegar. The house salad was fresh,... More

Wonderful setting in the historical section of Abingdon. As always the food is wonderful and the staff is very attentive. Max the owner is always accessible and checked on us a couple times in a way that makes you feel welcome and comfortable. We never pass up an opportunity to visit when in town. Quick easy walk to The Barter... More

Max is a wonderful host and owner. The food here is always out of this world, I usually have the special or if that doesn't fit my taste the black and blue medallions of beef are to die for. The Tavern is a testament to the benefits of locally owned and managed establishments.

The food is very good but, is too pricey. Its an old house which has a lot of history for those that seek history.

This restaurant deserves and maintains its title as the best restaurant in Abingdon. The ambiance is incredible, if you can get used to uneven floors. The menu is eclectic with steaks, seafood, German fare, jambalaya, chicken and chops. While the Tavern has been a restaurant for the 33 years I have lived here, Max Herrman, the current proprietor, has elevated... More
