The Tavern is a delightful find in the cute little town of Abingdon, Virginia. The building was erected during the colonial period and eating here was like stepping back into the 18th century. So charming! Wood beams everywhere. We ate on the outdoor patio, and it was lovely. The service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive. The owner stopped by... More

I live in Dallas, but everytime I'm in the area this is my go to spot. The owner, Max, is from Germany and provides an excellent experience everytime. I know the menu is full of high quality dishes, but the past 10 times I have been I only order the "Ferracci". You wont find it on the menu, but it... More

We had a great meal at The Tavern. Food (Wienerschnitzel and Sea Bass entrees) was outstanding as was service. The location and structure are a perfect fit for historical Abingdon. The proprietor stopped by twice to check that everything was satisfactory. We ate upstairs but the outside dining in the back looked very good as well. Will definitely return.

Ambiance is wonderful and the food excellent. We sat at a special table where 'love' notes are written and kept for future diners.

we have often driven 4 hours round trip to dine here. the food is always outstanding and the service is great. don't sit on the back porch as it causes extreme alcohol consumption.

The Tavern is an experience in itself from the moss growing on the roof to the historical feel inside. The staff is excellent and very attentive. The owner usually visits each table to chat if you like. The food is very good but is a little more expensive than most in town. Quite and cozy. Good place for a romantic... More

Had dinner at the Tavern based on reviews on trip advisor. Did not choose the top rated restaurant -- and the Tavern is a delightful building and we were seated on the upstairs balcony. Wonderful view, and wonderful evening to eat outside. The dinner was wonderfully prepared. I had the scallops which were delightful, and my husband had their surf... More

Most residents in the Abingdon area know the history of this National treasure. Originally build in 1779 it has gone through many transformations. President Andrew Jackson, Henry Clay and the King of France have visited. When you walk in the front door the first thing you see is a tavern style bar. Small yet cozy. I was seated outside and... Best food and a cool place to eat. Black and Blue Medallions are great. Every time we go try a different location to get a different vibe.

Best steak I have ever had. I love the old building and history here. Price is a bit to high though.
