Gourmet food just off the interstate - who knew?

What a pleasant surprise to come across Rain when we stayed in Abington, Virginia. The service was relaxed and informed. There were some great craft beers on tap and the food was complex and well-presented. Highlights included the arugula salad and the duck mousse toasts. Situated close to the... read more

We popped in for a light lunch while exploring Abingdon and were not disappointed in our choice. I had a delicious chicken salad croissant that came with fries. There was a good beer and wine selection and the interior was nicely appointed with restaurant on one side and bar on the other. Good spot for lunch (and the dinner menu... More

A previous reviewer got bent out of shape because, in his estimation, Rain foolishly aspired to big city status. We're from Philly, which now has a thriving restaurant scene. We often go to New York and eat there. Have to say Rain could more than hold its own in those cities. I ordered the tuna extra rare and it came... More

As out-of-towners, my wife and I have eaten at Rain twice in the last two years. We went back the second time because we were so impressed by their ribeye on our first visit. We were tempted by other items but just had to try the ribeye again to see if it really was as good as we remembered. IT... More

I am local the Abingdon area, and I had been to Rain twice in the past two years. This is more a commentary about my busy schedule than about my interest in eating there, and lately I visited twice in the last few weeks. On both occasions I chose to order menu items out of the ordinary -- things not... More

Despite some negative TA reviews, we opted for Rain and were pleased with our choice. The salads were excellent. We liked the basil arugula dressing, very fresh taste and best among the options. There were some problems with the temperatures with our food - squash soup was delicious but just barely warm. My escolar special was delicious but the so-called... More

Having a night out with my wife, when we decided to try Rain Restaurant in Abingdon. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits and my wife had the Stuffed Chicken Breast. Both entrees were delicious. We look forward to returning to the restaurant in warmer weather to sit on the patio and have a few drinks.

We enjoyed a meal here on Valentine's Day. I had the scallops and they were delicious! The calamari appetizer was also very good. We would go back next time in town.

The food is not at all worth the prices. They are trying to be way classier than what they are. You're in South West Virginia, not Charleston, South Carolina.

Our prices are exactly at or below the average when compared side by side with other area restaurants excluding corporate franchises. Also maybe its just our Southwest Virginia good ol' boy ignorance but we were not aware that in order to try and serve quality food to our guests you had to be from the Big City. Thank you for... Slow sevice and food is unpalatable. Pasta salad was limp pasta with nothing but mayo. Obviously no chef on board

Goodness gracious, our pasta salad is decidedly simple (like most pasta salads are) as it is just a side dish to accompany a variety of lunch items. It has always been made the same with a homemade pasta salad dressing made up of mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar and seasonings along with small diced chunks of red onion and cucumber. Most of... More
