Great Food, Good Service, Odd Venue

On our most recent visit to Austin, my wife and I tried the Athenian Bar and Grill since we had a taste for Greek food and we were staying in downtown Austin. The Athenian was easy enough to find although our GPS misdirected us a little. The restaurant is large with tall wooden columns, a clear... read more

A cafeteria style dining room, limited menu of salads, gyros, drinks. Clean tables and eating area but not attractive. When had lunch the restaurant was about 1/3 full and quite. Functional, no ambience, ok food.

Many hit this spot up for lunch during the work day, but try it out in the evening sometime! The dinner menu is the best Greek food in town, and my husband and I often hit it up when we crave nostalgia for our honeymoon in Greece.

Don't be fooled by the casual atmosphere of this restaurant. This is one of Austin's best eateries. The Greek salad, in particular, is fantastic. The chicken, a chef's specialty, is absolutely delicious. We've eaten just about everything on the menu, and never had anything we didn't absolutely love. This place has a fantastic lunch at great prices, but the dinner... More

I had dinner here and I was pleasently surprised. When I walked in I was a bit worried because the place was nearly empty. But the food was fantastic. Would go there again any time.

Was very empty on a Friday evening but soon was more than pleasantly surprised. We were visiting friends and they suggested we try together, I was apprehensive but soon learned it would be best decision of dining out over our long weekend. Started out with an appetizer of hummus, rolled grape leaf, fried spinich, greek yogurt sauce and warm pita... More

I have eaten there perhaps 50-100 times over the last few years. I went today with my son who is autistic. My son was just touching the window waiting for food. The owner came outside and yelled at my son. He asked my wife what was his problem. She told him that he was acting off because he has autism.... More

Had a quick business lunch here. Served Fast Food style, pick up the food in the front then find a table. Very busy at lunch time, but everything moved fast. The lamb Gyro was good.

Strolling down tree-lined Congress Street in Austin, Texas at lunchtime, my wife and I found the perfect place to have a healthy snack--the Athena Restaurant. The ambiance was excellent, whether you sat indoors in air-conditioning or outside on the patio on this balmy day. The Greek food, especially the vegan and vegetarian salads and main dishes, was prepared with both... More

I had the chicken and gyros plate on a bed of rice and lettuce. Absolutely excellent! the restaurant was nicely decorated and with a very good waiter. My wife's meal she said was good, however the potatoes roasted in a red sauce were excellent. Nicely decorated and right downtown.
