We went to the food truck area in Austin and we came across Ruby's BBQ. We enjoyed the meal. I had the Elgin Sausage, Brisket and Slaw. They offer sandwiches or meat by the pound. I ordered 1/2 pound of brisket and 1/2 pound of Elgin Sausage. The brisket was good and had a good smokey flavor, but this was... More

Only had a few minutes for lunch when traveling and this was right around the corner...They had a quick already made sandwich area that had sliced beef, chopped beef and others...Picked up a sandwich, drink, and chips and it was all under $5!...The chopped beef sandwich was full of meat and was only $2.50!!! Such a deal and DELICIOUS!!!

My husband and I went to Ruby's because of their vegetarian creole options, our food was excellent. The restaurant is really cool and the staff was friendly and helpful.

The place has been here in its location for over 25 years. Maybe with all the choices we have in Austin now, it is time for Ruby to retire. The only problem with that is that it is in a great location right next to the UT campus and offers an alternative eating venue to the usual FF places all... More

Ruby's is one of the great local restaurants, with terrific bbq and a genuine Austin color. My personal favorite is off the menu: Briskit tacos with the spicy beans and pico de gallo. Fantastic! You'll be happy all day

I've been eating BBQ at Ruby's since it first opened. This little place is where it's at. Cool decor, too- the inside looks like a cantina from some Clint Eastwood movie. Photos of blues legends decorate the walls (Antone's famous blues bar used to be nearby) and the music they play here is honest to goodness bluesy greatness. Centrally located,... More

A local took me to Ruby's, and we had a great time! We ordered two meat samplers: one with sausage and chicken, and the other with brisket and ham, plus sides of mac and cheese, baked beans, collard greens, and potato salad. The sausage was *excellent* - I found the brisket overcooked but tasty; the chicken and ham were nicely... More

Thursday special - St. Louis Ribs. I don't like bbq sauce at all. If it were up to me, I'd have the meat by the pound and split the sides with others at the table. I don't know what kind of sauce it was, but after making home made versions that should only be attempted by a professional, it was... More

Rudy's has very nice staff. The sauce is tasty, and the sides were good. the brisket was good, too. Next time, though, I would like to order the meat by the pound, which is offered, and then add a side or two. Rudy's also has a pleasant area to sit outdooors, which we enjoyed.

I walked in around 7PM on a Monday and it was empty and wondered why until I got my bill. A plate with 1/3lb brisket and 2 sides (mushy mac and cheese and unseasoned black beans) with 2 slices of white bread - $15. Not worth it. I won't be back.
