After eating BBQ in several excellent places in and around Austin, we went to Ruby's and thought it was the BEST! Especially the brisket. Definitely a "diner, drive-ins, and dives" atmosphere, but very clean. Was not crowded, as we ate early, but it probably gets packed later on. Kid-friendly, will come back here when we are in town.

Although it's a walk-up counter, the service was pretty unfriendly. Food was OK, but not particularly good. Ribs poor, lacking in flavour...

We were looking for a bit of BBQ on Sunday night in North Austin and came upon Ruby's. It has the authentic look and aroma of a pit BBQ place. You order at the counter and pick it up and take a seat. We ordered the chopped spicy BBQ beef sandwich. The meat was tender and smoky but the sauce... More

I had heard of Rubys a few times but never tried it. Until today. The place is definitely "Austin" inside and out. I had the brisket (which was 20$ a pound!!!! Way more than what I'm used to). It was marvelous. It was very smokey, very moist, and sliced perfectly. I also got the baby backs. Incredible! Minimal use of... More

Starting first, this is Ruby's, not Rudy's. It's a small, funky, BBQ place not too far from the university. We came on a Monday for lunch and ordered the special, a chopped barbecue beef sandwich on a big soft roll. With one side & beverage, it was $6.95. Wife got vinegar coleslaw; I got mustard potato salad. We both drank... More

The restaurant was very gracious about serving our large group. They were very fast, and all orders were accurate. Priced perfectly for a university area. Served on trays, so don't expect linen and silver service. It was perfect!

When researching BBQ joints for our Texas trip, I noticed that the majority did not cater for vegetarians beyond sides of potato salad or mac'n'cheese (which wasn't great news for the vegetarians in our party). Ruby's was one of the few exceptions - with salads as both mains and sides, also some Tex-Mex and Cajun options. I went for the... More

Both my husband and I got sick after dining here. I had the brisket, which I have had better, not very tender or flavorful. Had a side of mac and cheese not sure they understand what mac and cheese truly is, Kraft in a box is 100% better then what they serve. BTW have not had Kraft in a box... More

We make it a point to stop at Ruby's whenever we are in Austin, which is usually several times a year, as we have family (lucky us) there. We have eaten at Ruby's for lunch, dinner, late night and take-out. They never disappoint. We regard Ruby's as our go-to spot for authentic Texas BBQ. Food handlers are often students and... More

I seem to make it to Ruby's once on every visit to Austin. This is probably somewhat due to its location near the university, but the BBQ is reasonably tasty nonetheless. Sauce is slightly sweet with a definite "spice" flavor that I can't quite place. Sides are fine, with two variations of both slaw and potato salad. While the building... More
