A real diner with a counter!

If you miss the old days of diners with a counter and endless coffee this is the place. While waiting for a car inspection, I came over for an early morning breakfast and enjoyed the fluffy scrambled eggs [not overcooked], crisp-but-not-burnt home fries, coffee, and service. We were in town for SXSW. We decided to try this place. We went in and ordered some coffee. Tasted just awful! Menu was terrible. Service was terrible. Atmosphere was terrible. This place really just needs to hang this up. Game over.

For many years, the Night Hawk was an Austin landmark - the Frisco was part of that institution. I should have had a clue when we walked in and my feet stuck to the floor - and an overwhelming greasy, burned smell in the air. I started thinking "this is a bad idea", but we waited for our table. Once... More

Been coming to Austin for 20 years and always like to try a non chain restaurant in this trendy yet quaint town. Tried the Frisco for the second time and was not disappointed. The atmosphere takes you back in time, bringing forth Texas images and an old Southern feel. Burgers and sweet potato fries, fried ocre... all were very good.... More

I've been in Austin,TX for a while now, but though I've heard of Frisco, I haven't had occasion to eat there until last week . . . prompted by a coupon in the local mailer. The outside of the building looked unassuming, but inside it had a warm ambience - a large "lunch counter" type bar along one side, with... More

Hearty breakfasts and the chopped steaks at other times are still a classic. This is where long time Austin residents eat and it is easy to see why. Very friendly service and high quality food.

Well we bought a Travelzoo coupon thinking this was a totally different place. Since the coupon was expiring we decided to use it up. MUCH to our surprise we left Frisco's wondering when we could return. The coupon for four people included two shared appetizers, four entries AND four desserts. Our appetizers were a giant dish of queso and chips... More

So happy to hear that your first go-around with us was such a hit! Y'all definitely picked some of our personal favorites around here -- we can't get enough of that salted caramel cake either! You'll have to come see us again soon. We've got quite a few items on our menu that you won't want to miss out on... More

This food could have been right off my grand parent's stove top. If you're looking for a home-cooked southern meal, this is the place. If you want fancy and hip this is probably not for you. We found the staff warm & welcoming and the service (from our waiter Steve) absolutely wonderful. My wife and I absolutely loved the food,... More

"This food could have been right off my grand parent's stove top." We're just not sure we could ask for a better compliment, Eric! It's wonderful to hear that you were so impressed with your first go-around. It sounds like the whole family loved every last bite, which is always music to our ears. We'll be sure to pass along... Wow, my husband and I do *not* get the 3.5 star average of this place. We had never been to Frisco, even though we've both lived in Austin for decades. So we decided to try it for dinner last night. He ordered the pork chop and I ordered the blackened tilapia, both of which were supposed to come with 2... More

Ok, I admit it. We have never been to the Frisco Shop before, even though it has been an Austin iconic restaurant for over 60 years! All I got to say is that it is a buttery, carb-filled goodness experience that everyone should try at least once. My husband and I went with our daughter and 4 yr old granddaughter.... More

It sounds like our food was a hit with the whole family, which is music to our ears, Joann! So happy that your first go-around left you so impressed. There's just nothing like a little carb-filled goodness, is there? You'll have to come back to try our desserts sometime soon. Pro tip: The Coconut Cream Pie is not the be... More
