I looked for something away from the Convention Center for lunch and waled into Mekong River with a co-worker. We were greeted and sat promptly. We ordered drinks and some Fresh Rolls with shrimp. Fresh Rolls were somewhat rubbery, but the ingredients inside the wrappers were fresh. The accompanying peanut sauce was a small portion and not sufficient for the... More

Mekong River is now taken over by the original owners, who started their restaurant in 1997 under the name Pho Cong Ly then later became Mekong River. They are now working together with Lit Lounge to operate as a restaurant for lunch and a bar during the evening. The food is not only better but the price is still low... More

Having spent a week in the US I craved Vietnamese to bring some freshness, herbiness and lightness to my diet. I headed to Mekong River as it was downtown Austin - near where I am staying. The omens were not good to start with as a tray of takeaway rice lay on the floor at the entrance with staff and... More

Everyone who works there are so inviting & friendly. Food is excellent and fairly priced. I loved eating here with my friend, that I brought my whole family with me again the next night. Wish I lived in Austin I'd come back weekly.

I had eaten in the Mekong River several times over the past few years and liked it alot. We were in the mood for Pho so we stopped by. The fresh spring rolls in rice paper were anything but....soggy and tasteless. The peanut sauce was watery and quite bland. Ordered the Pho with noodles, steak, and meatballs, The broth tasted... We stopped for lunch with our grandboys and their parents and had a delicious lunch. The boys loved slurpping those long rice noodles. We had our favorite vermicelli with vietnamese rolls and pork or chicken-the bowls were the biggest I have ever seen and loaded with delicious vegetables, meat, seasonings and vermicelli. Excellent food, wonderful atmosphere and even tablecloths which... More

The service here was very good. The food was good, but not the best Thai I've ever had by a long shot coming from Philadelphia. But I'm not sure Austin had many other choices. The prices were good also.

Nested in the middle of Austin's famous Sixth St, in downtown, Mekong River Restaurant, is located in the direct path of thousands of locals and visitors. Although it can easily be missed. They have a very small sign outside their building, which by the way, is one of many historical buildings in the area. The food is fantastic, authentic, portions... More
