The atmosphere is great, very happening but cozy (semi-upscale, though prices are very reasonable). We went for dinner, the food was very good (I love the curry dishes and the naan, wasn't that crazy about the chicken kabobs, though they were pretty good as well). Service was outstanding! Not the 100% authentic Indian experience, so sure, you probably can find... More

There are at least 3 or 4 Indian food restaurants in Austin that are better than the Clay Pit. The food here is not bad but if you're looking for high quality, skip this one.

We ate at the Clay Pit last year during the Grand Prix and decided to try it again. Twelve hours later i came down with a case of food poisoning that ensured my flights home were a nightmare. Beware of the Lamb Birhani!

Good price and great food. Very nice atmosphere and perfect if you are looking for a good place to go with your friends to have a good dinner before hiting 6th Street.

I've been searching for a place that beats it, but the Clay Pit is the best Indian food I've ever had. Some of the grilled options were a little dry, but the curries are definitely their strong suite. The Khorma and Tikka Masala are regular favorites; each curry is so rich and flavorful that they taste home cooked. Service was... More

We stumbled on this restaurant while visiting Austin and were delighted because my wife and I both like Indian food. Our entrees were both very tasty and the basmati rice with a cardamom pod and a stick of raw cinnamon was a nice touch. My one complaint is that the service was slow. On the way out we realized just... More

Went for a friend's b day dinner. Not sure what to expect, and was not disappointed. If you like a choice of foods with full flavor and spices, this is you place! Try the naan with garlic and basil! Yum Yum! Waitress was great and the setting is really laid back. I should of been eating here forever!! Going back... More

Went with high expectations for a birthday dinner n the overall experience was below average. The appetisers - samosas were good but the paneer tikka was poor, filled with oil n lacked the finishing. The daal makhani was not cooked well, while the chole masala was better. The service was very very slow n simple drinks took a long time... More

We were recently there with friends. While the food is very good, and the restaurant is attractive, the experience was marred by the terrible acoustics. We had to shout at each other and could barely hear the person we were next to, let alone across the not-very-big table.

Our favorite Indian food restaurant in Austin. Very affordable, delicious food. Highly recommend the chicken tikka masala. Also, for a more romantic setting, as to be put downstairs in the cellar. (However, I think that it is only available on Friday and Saturday nights).
