Food was good, Margaritas excellent

I went here on a Saturday night thinking I wouldn't have a problem getting a seat since I was solo. Luckily, I was able to sit at the bar, because the wait for a table was over 45 minutes. The bartenders were basically my servers and given that they had to prepare many drinks they were timely and... read more

I've been eating at Z Tejas on Sixth Street since the mid-90s. The Tex-Mex menu hasn't changed much, nor does it need to. Pollo omelettes for brunch are outstanding, and the enchiladas at dinner are consistently good. The casual atmosphere, efficient service, and good margaritas make it a favorite restaurant.

On our last visit to Austin we walked down from our airbnb to eat. We have eaten here over the years and the menu has changed many times but the food is always really good. We had drinks and several happy hour specials. Everything was delicious.

The food was good but not exceptional. I had the chicken fried chicken, and would recommend to anyone going. The margarita was great. The parking situation was sketchy at best. There is a small access pathway to the side of the restaurant you can turn down to access parking on the side or back of Z'Tejas. There was no valet... More

My partner and I are over from the UK in the middle of a road trip. We arrived in Austin and decided to try this restaurant. During our trip we have experienced several Tex-Mex diners and Z' Tejas ranks very highly on the list. My partners fillet steak was mouthwatering and perfectly cooked. The decor and ambience are appealing however,... More

I ate at the bar. Cool setting. Pretty busy for a Sunday. Nice atmosphere and good service at the bar. Too bad it was ruined by delivery of a luke-warm enchilada and a downright cold rice and cold beans. The main dish had good flavor - I'm guessing it sat waiting to be delivered for longer than it should have.... More

Nothing wrong with corporate food mills. Just don't expect more than that. Not even worth writing at length about this place. If you don't care about food, it's probably fine.

TexMex done right, and good service, too. Neat ambience. Great cornbread. Varied menu, so you will not get bored with selections. Only 2 things preventing an excellent rating: happy hour margarita tasty but a bit small; peppercorn steak with mushroom sauce served with no peppercorn--medium came out pretty rare. HOWEVER it was too good to return for a do-over!

Set in an old house, or two, this quaint restaurant is a gem! I've been several times for brunch/lunch and enjoyed the Bloody Mary Bar more than the food.

Met a girlfriend here for lunch shortly before Christmas. The interior multi-leveled and multi-roomed, there was actually parking available at lunch and we were both on post Thanksgiving diets. Therefore, I ordered the Achiote Chicken Chopped Salad (iceberg lettuce, avocado, bacon, black beans, Cotija cheese, roasted corn, pepitas, Roma tomatoes, red cabbage with ranch vinaigrette). But first, we were brought... More
