Historic Place, Average BBQ

The setting itself is worth it. No air conditioning means a hot restaurant but the setting is what makes this place. The food is above average BBQ but not the best that I have had. The brisket is very good as is the sausage and the beef ribs are large. The problem is the sauce. The sauce is... read more

So my friends and I ended up here after Franklins was closed for the weekend and La BBQ line was wrapped around the block. Iron Works has decent BBQ, nothing too special about it. The beef ribs and sausage were my favorite. The pork ribs and brisket were my least favorite. The potatoe salad and Mac & cheese were average.... More

Let's get straight to it! BBQ Sauce: HORRIBLE, taste like A1 with Worchestire sauce, with ketchup. The spicy sauce had a better taste to it, with a darker color. Dissapointed. Pork Ribs: Nothing special about these ribs and lack the proper bark for good pork ribs. They were tender though, couldn't add BBQ sauce to them, since the sauce is... More

We ended up here after seeing the 3-block long lines at Franklins and La barbecue as it had a decent yelp rating. The brisket was soft and juicy, and went well with cream corn on the side. Overall, this joint wouldn't disappoint but nothing to rave about either

Great beef ribs, like the best we'd ever had. My husband and I ordered a soft drink, a beer and the sampler with an extra rib added for like $36. The brisket, sausage, bbq sauce and coleslaw were excellent as well. Potato salad not bad just not my style as it has celery in it.

Iron Works knows how to do barbecue. Their food was absolutely amazing and their service was A1! After having a bad experience at another local restaurant, Iron Works was a breath of fresh air. Not to mention the owner was very down to earth and very humble. If you are in Austin please make sure you go to Iron Works!

If you are looking for a casual mom and pop experience without any frills whatsoever, this is the place to come for a delicious sliced brisket. This very old building will present you with a picture of what Austin used to be before the mega hotels and restaurants with their "creative" chefs started posing as the real thing. Do not... More

I hate to say it but Iron Works brisket is better than mine! This really was flavorful and moist, no bbq sauce needed, though it was available. In Austin for a week and went back a second time. Conveniently located around the corner from the convention center.

The folks at the hotel in Austin said The Ironworks was one of the best barbeque joints in Austin. They lied.I went there expecting beef ribs that were moist, tender, and tasty. The ribs I got were tough, dry, and tasteless .. even with tons of the non-descript sauce i poured on them. Now I WILL say the portions were... More
