Easy location when downtown. Good beef ribs

I went to lunch at Iron Works while on a lunch break at the convention center. I had beef ribs(3), creamed corn, pinto beans and a shiner bock. The ribs and sides were good but I'd frankly put this as a second place to Terry Black's (where I had been the day before). Don't mistake me though, his... read more

I don't hate BBQ, but I am not a big fan - - except for Iron Works. We needed a quick lunch near the Convention Center, went out the wrong door for one of regular restaurants, and found Iron Works. It smelled great, and we were on a schedule. The brisket was heavenly, and the cole slaw tasted just like... More

This was a find, right next to the convention center. Cozy, heated by a wood stove, small dining space. Always found a waiting line from opening through a late lunch hour, but it moves fast. Order at the counter window, watch them slice up that yummy wood smoker cooked brisket! Everything was delicious. Fast, casual, reasonable. Ate there every day... More

So people have asked me whether Iron Works or Franklin is the "best" BBQ restaurant. It's hard to say. Bbq is complicated. It can vary from just cheap roadside food to culinary artistry embedded in a social setting. In Texas, especially in Austin, we're dealing more with the latter. So the short answer is that I think Franklin's brisket is... More

We arrived in Austin around dinner time and were hungry but wanted to keep it simple. A local on the plane had recommended Iron Works and as it turned out it was almost across the street from our hotel (The Hotel Van Zandt) so we decided to give it a try. You cannot expect a guy from Philadelphia to be... More

I am a native Texas now living in Maine. I have frequented many, many barbecue restaurants in Austin, but when I visit now, I head straight for the Iron Works. It is by far the best barbecue in the state!!!

Iron Works lives up to reputation. We had very good ribs and chopped beef. Loved the old wood and overall character of the place. Very comparable to a few BBQ joints across the SEC towns. Enjoyed eating on outside porch on a perfect first day in Austin.

The place has a nice atmosphere, took the pork ribs they were not top level but they were good enough to reach 4 out of 5. The corn was amazing. Very cheap.

Stopped by for lunch. The place is very casual / rustic / rudimentary / a shack. Wooden floor, wood-burning stoves, paper towel rolls on the table - you get the drift. You get your food on a paper plate. I ordered brisket, which was pure perfection. So good, I literally called home to tell my son (another meat lover) about... More

I asked at my hotel for good bbq and they suggested here. Wow! Great food and fun unique place. I had the special with brisket, beef rib, and sausage. It was excellent. A lot of food for the money. Unique place. Would be nice in warmer weather, along the river
