If you're going to Austin, stop reading this and make a reservation now. Seriously, you won't regret going here. I made a reservation because I heard it was a really wonderful place but when we arrived we were serendipitous seated 20 minutes early. Our server was phenomenal, like professional servers you only hear about from Europe. He was perfect, answered... More

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. It offers southwestern/Mexican cuisine, which is not to be confused with the ubiquitous Tex-Mex cuisine. One of the impressive qualities of Fonda San Miguel is that their offerings are consistently excellent. I have dined my way through a large number of appetizers, entrees, and desserts, and I have never been disappointed.... More

I am so sad to report that something negative has occurred at this restaurant. We snuck in just two minutes before they stop seating for a Saturday night, 10:30 pm. There were two ladies at the hostess desk, one refused to seat us, but the other let us in, directly contradicting the first lady. The place was EMPTY, which was... More

We came here for dinner one evening and were instantly impressed by the exterior and grounds of Fonda San Miguel. The building is adobe with some painting and tiles..very southwestern/Mexican. The grounds are lush and green and filled with plants and live oaks strung with red and blue lights. Inside is very nice and decorated in a very southwestern/mexican/native american... More

Went for dinner and the margaritas are exceptional. Food order was Conchinita Pibil which was outstanding. More than enough food for one person. Wife had the shrimp which were good sized Gulf shrimp. Voted Texas Monthly Top Mexican for a reason. We went on a night when a large corporate event was being held so we had to sit in... More

The food here is interior Mexican, not Tex-Mex, so that alone makes it unusual. The atmosphere is lovely, although sometimes it is difficult to experience as the restaurant becomes so crowded. I have been here several times, both for dinner and for brunch. Reservations are a must for both. I would recommend brunch over dinner. The food and experience at... More

Had not been here in years so wanted to give it a try with some old friends. The building and atmosphere are beautiful but really 17 dollars for enchiladas with a very small serving of rice and beans beside it. Our bill was $220.00 for four people including tip. Three of us had enchiladas. We did have a few coctails... More

Fonda San Miguel has been in Austin for some time now. The cuisine is not "tex mex" as you often find in Austin, but authentic, interior Mexican food. The atmosphere is nice and cozy and the staff is very helpful and attentive. The food is good, the service is good, and you'd better make reservations!

My cousin & I were visitng Austin in spring time. We are both over 60. We arrived at 5:15 for the happy hour and stayed for dinner. The server in the bar was attentive and polite so we decided to have dinner WELL, don't go here if you are over 55 & only 2 in your party for dinner--we had... More

My husband and I have eaten here a few times and really enjoy this place. Just walking through the door to the amazing interior makes me feel enveloped in warmth and fun. This time I took the time to look at some of the quirky decorations and enjoy their humor. We went with a New England friend who found the... More
