There are so many good Mexican restaurants in Austin and this is one of them. Fonda serves upscale, mainland Mexico food. Not much TexMex here. We tried several dishes and drinks (mezcal, etc.) and they were very innovative dishes. Some were excellent (the ceviche) and some average (the mole sauce was not my favorite). Prices were very expensive for Mexican... More

On the one hand, the food was very good, the service was friendly and efficient, the decor was upscale and reminiscent of old Mexico. On the other hand, it's hard to say it's a great value because it was sooooo expensive - $50 per person, with some drinking Coke and others drinking water. We were there for the weekend buffet.... We had dinner with friends. We shared a sample platter with appetizers and they were all good. The tacos al pastor were excellent (if not what I would call fully authentic). EVERYBODY loved their dish. I had a lamb mixiote which was very large and fantastic: tender, juicy and with amazing flavor. Dessert (a three-chocolate cake) and coffee were also... More

We have eaten Sunday Brunch there about 8 times as well as for dinner. It is a beautiful restaurant with great interior Mexican food and excellent service. We were there today and took our grown kids and their partners and had a uniformly great experience. This is not for people on a budget and is a great place for special... More

If you're going to Austin, stop reading this and make a reservation now. Seriously, you won't regret going here. I made a reservation because I heard it was a really wonderful place but when we arrived we were serendipitous seated 20 minutes early. Our server was phenomenal, like professional servers you only hear about from Europe. He was perfect, answered... More

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. It offers southwestern/Mexican cuisine, which is not to be confused with the ubiquitous Tex-Mex cuisine. One of the impressive qualities of Fonda San Miguel is that their offerings are consistently excellent. I have dined my way through a large number of appetizers, entrees, and desserts, and I have never been disappointed.... More

I am so sad to report that something negative has occurred at this restaurant. We snuck in just two minutes before they stop seating for a Saturday night, 10:30 pm. There were two ladies at the hostess desk, one refused to seat us, but the other let us in, directly contradicting the first lady. The place was EMPTY, which was... More

We came here for dinner one evening and were instantly impressed by the exterior and grounds of Fonda San Miguel. The building is adobe with some painting and tiles..very southwestern/Mexican. The grounds are lush and green and filled with plants and live oaks strung with red and blue lights. Inside is very nice and decorated in a very southwestern/mexican/native american... More

Went for dinner and the margaritas are exceptional. Food order was Conchinita Pibil which was outstanding. More than enough food for one person. Wife had the shrimp which were good sized Gulf shrimp. Voted Texas Monthly Top Mexican for a reason. We went on a night when a large corporate event was being held so we had to sit in... More
