Still a wonderful "old Austin" classic

We went to Fonda San Miguel for my birthday. We had not eaten there in several years and I wondered if it might have changed. I am so happy to report that this is still one of the classic Old Austin restaurants that is so worth a trip to have a meal there! We ordered many different dishes and... read more

The food is really good and the service is good too. The seating is comfortable. They take reservations and for dinner and brunch making a reservation will save you from a long wait. They have free valet parking, which is definitely the best parking option.

By far, one of the most extensive buffets with real Mexican food. The staff was extremely attentive, the food never looked like it had been sitting for long, and it was obvious they put great pride in serving delectable dishes. By the time we were done, we didn't need to eat for a week. Truly a GREAT experience in an... More

We had driven down from Dallas to see friends and was looking forward to a great meal. Called to make reservations for Saturday night. The hostess said they weren't taking reservations. Thinking it was strange, I asked if they no longer took reservations and she said, no not that night. We arrived about 7:00 only to find that they had... More

It had been years since we'd eaten at this restaurant. It is still a gorgeous place, and because we had reservations (strongly recommended), we were shown immediately to our table. The margaritas were exceptional and the food was very good. Gluten-free requests are cheerfully accommodated. It's just that there was a kind of frenetic quality about the place. Maybe it... More

Wonderful, friendly and attentive wait staff. Delicious food and great margaritas. Chips were well made and the two dips were very flavorful. I especially enjoyed the spinach salad and garlic shrimp. Be sure to have the Mexican chocolate ice cream!

Spectacular Sunday brunch buffet! There's a wide range of entrees. I liked the quail, and I loved the tamales and the enchiladas. And the desserts are memorable. Excellent creme brulee, tres leches, bread pudding, chocolate tortes, and more. The restaurant is beautiful, looks like a hacienda. I like the way chefs are on on hand at the buffet to describe... Tom is the most gracious owner who has brought his unique sensibility to his old world creation. The courtyard you enter is resplendent with modern fixtures that inform an old world atmosphere. The perimeter is adorned with small private areas for drinks and conversation or a full meal dressed with an eclectic assortment of the coolest art from all over... More

We had a lovely Sunday brunch but $40 for a 14 year-old is outrageous. We wanted our guests to experience this restaurant and the only day that we could go was Sunday so we decided to go despite the price. The food was delicious but it was way over priced.

We are from California and know and appreciate good Mexican food. Outside of the tamales, we thought the food was ordinary at best. The building is quite grand, but it is so big there is no way food can be prepared with care. The service was fine, but nothing special. All in all it was a very ho hum experience---especially...
